Job summary
This is a unique post supporting the young people placed in children's homes within Buckinghamshire.
To lead on and develop a high quality specialist clinical psychology service to children and young people based in Local Authority residential care in Buckinghamshire. The postholder will be expected to work alongside colleagues in conducting comprehensive psychological assessments of young people placed in residential care. This will include cognitive assessments and neurodevelopmental screening where appropriate, assessments of mental health including screening for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, identifying risks, and developing psychological formulations and risk management plans in collaboration with residential care staff. The post-holder will contribute to the development and review of the young person's care plan, helping to identify a young person's needs and making recommendations that would focus on improving the emotional well-being and resilience of that young person in residential care.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be expected to take a leadership role in advising Social Care on suitable placements for Children who are Looked After and whether residential or foster-care is best suited to that child's needs. Working closely with the Local Authority's Regional Operations Manager in reviewing placements, advising on matching of young people to the appropriate residential home and leading on staff development including understanding of psychological concepts so that a young person's emotional and attachment needs can be responded to appropriately.
You will be expected to exercise autonomy in carrying out risk assessments and risk management plans and will liaise with the appropriate care pathway within CAMHS if a specific piece of therapeutic intervention is required. The postholder will liaise closely with the CAMHS crisis team and will alert the team to young people within the homes that may need additional package of support to reduce risk.
The postholder will also be expected to attend CAMHS-LAC team meetings and contribute to the development of the CAMHS-LAC service. To provide training placements for Doctoral Trainee psychologists, and a range of qualified and unqualified staff across mental health areas, as agreed. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. To utilise research skills for audit, and contribute to research and training within the areas served by the teams and service.
