Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

This post is for a specialty doctor in child and adolescent psychiatry. The post is within the NDC service covering the whole county of Oxfordshire. The service has been undergoing transformation since 2017 in line with the Thrive model.

The service has an assessment and a treatment (for complex neurodevelopmental cases) component as well as an ADHD clinic run by Non medical prescribers and consultants. The post holder would initially join the ADHD clinic and manage the ongoing medication and treatment of young people with ADHD and ASD. We are keen to support clinicians in their professional development and as such would encourage and support the post holder in developing skills in assessment and treatment. The team is a supportive and collaborative one and we encourage quality improvement initiatives and service developments from all members. We run therapeutic groups (post ADHD and ASD for parents, Anxiety and challenging behaviour groups) and the post holder would be encouraged to be involved in these if interested.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within an active and supportive multidisciplinary team. The specialty doctor is responsible for their own practice, but will have supervision and support from the consultants and clinicians within the team. The team currently has 3 WTE consultants but is likely to expand. The consultants provide supervision for the NMPs each week and the post holder would join this supervision. The NMPs hold case loads of 150 cases but this varies depending on their involvement in other parts of the service. We would be keen to develop this specialty doctor role depending on the interests of the post holder and the needs of the service.

The specialty psychiatrist will work in partnership within the multidisciplinary team for the clinical management of patients and take on more complex cases depending on their knowledge and experience. This will include risk assessment, the assessment of the needs of carers, planning and delivery of therapeutic interventions. The post holder will regularly consult with other parts of the service (eg Getting more help. Eating disorders).

The NDC team receives support from other teams providing services for this population of children and Young People. This includes CAMHS Outreach Service (OSCA), a multi-disciplinary team working with Children and young people with complex needs, The Early intervention service in psychosis (EIP) Team, Tier 4 Forensic CAMHS, Specialist team for sexual harm and the Tier 4 neurodevelopmental service.
