Job summary

Are you an experienced AHP who is an inspirational and transformational clinical leader, highly motivated and visible, with a desire and passion to drive improvement across a large mental health and community organisation?

If you have a proven track record of strategic development of services through delivering on agreed objectives, targets and quality standards whilst working within resource controls and restraints this role is for you. This is a key role within the corporate senior professional and quality team under the auspices of the Chief Nurse, which includes all the professional leads. You will have an important reach within the extended executive and be central to clinical and quality planning and delivery across the entire portfolio of Trust services, in order to drive improvement for patients and families.

You will work closely with other senior clinical leads in the system to ensure a joined up collaborative approach to addressing inequalities and aspiring to excellence.

The post holder will continue to build on the visibility and influence of the diverse professions we currently have which includes OT's; paramedics; SLT's; physios and many more, ensuring that the workforce is fully supported and developed whilst creating an innovative approach to sustaining the workforce over the coming years.

Main duties of the job

The Associate Director for Allied Health Professionals plays a key role in achieving one of our four strategic aims to continuously improve the quality of services so that they are safe, patients and carers have excellent experiences and they achieve the outcomes they want.

The Associate Director for Allied Health professions will be a compassionate and caring senior leader supporting an exciting portfolio within the Chief Nurses professional leadership team. They are expected to be an ambassador for AHP's and a positive role model. As the most senior AHP in our Trust they will be a clinical leader who will improve treatment, intervention and outcomes for patients acting as a catalyst to transform our health care system and strive towards excellence in practice and patient experience in all relevant fields across the Trust.

The Associate Director of AHP will work with the Chief Nurse to lead the AHP workforce to aspire towards excellent AHP practice and care through developing and valuing our talented AHP workforce.

The post holder will be required to work across the system at a very senior level, ensuring organisational boundaries are put aside to develop collaborative partnerships for the benefit of patients.

Job responsibilities

The Associate Director of AHP will lead on safer staffing and caseloads in the directorates, and the development of a career framework for AHPs, underpinned with strong systems for AHP practice and leadership development for all AHPs and care staff through the implementation of the AHP Strategy.

We have a vision for care to be a joint endeavour and teams will work with patients and carers in order to achieve and maintain the health and care outcomes they want. The Associate Director for AHP will work alongside the directorate Heads of and enable them to be responsible for the directorate work programme aspiring to deliver exceptional experience to patients within Oxford Health Foundation Trust in line with our values to be Caring, Safe and Excellent. They will work alongside the Chief Nurse and the directorates on our Journey to Outstanding.

The post holder is a formal designated Deputy, acting for the Chief Nurse as appropriate. They will be expected to attend formal Trust Committees including the Extended Monthly Executive Committee and play a lead role in Trust quality governance and improvement. They will make the best use of resources within our system to deliver greater value for patients.

The post holder will have extensive knowledge of AHP practice and also expert knowledge and practice of their own profession including an effective professional network to provide expert, wide ranging professional AHP and clinical advice, develop strategy and use innovation and improvement methodology and research to develop the AHP and clinical workforce to deliver outstanding safe care and improved outcomes.

This includes all age groups and specialties working in community hospitals, Minor Injury Units, District Nursing, Community Nursing, Integrated Localities, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities. The post holder will work closely with the other Associate Directors, , the Deputy Chief Nurse and Directorate Heads of Nursing, who will lead day to day nursing practice and work closely with the Clinical Directors, AMDs within our four clinical directorates and our Heads of Education and Training and the OXINAHR Professor of AHP Research, and Clinical academic colleagues at Oxford Brookes University and other Universities.

The post holder will contribute to Patient Safety Incident Reviews with executives and Clinical Directors led by the Chief Nurse and Chief Medical Officer.

The post holder will also take the lead on workforce related specific to their profession across the Trust and for all AHP groups within the directorates they are responsible for including all aspects of fairness and inclusion and including disciplinary and grievance resolution for AHPs.

The post holder will participate on Director on-call rota as required.
