Operational Lead for the CYP Eating Disorder Service (within the Buckinghamshire All Age Lifespan Eating Disorders Service)

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust are commissioned to operate an All Age Eating Disorder Lifespan service which consists of a Children and Young People's (CYP) Eating Disorder service and an Adult Community Eating Disorder Service. These services, under shared service management, offer care and treatment to individuals with eating disorders, and their families, across the lifespan.

We have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and motivated clinician to join the Buckinghamshire CYP Eating Disorder service as the team's Operational Lead (1 FTE).

The service is a well-established, highly skilled and friendly team to work in. Please do contact the Service Manager for an informal conversation.

The role has operational management responsibility for the CYP eating disorder team (which includes our exciting new FREED First Episode Rapid Early Intervention pathway).

The postholder will be working in a hybrid way (mixture of home based and office based). The office base is in Aylesbury.

Main duties of the job

  • To take overall management responsibility for all aspects of service delivery and operational matters for the CYP Eating Disorders Service, including the FREED (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorder
  • To work closely alongside the Operational Lead for the Buckinghamshire Adult Eating Disorders Service in order to provide an effective all age lifespan eating disorder service for patients, including working closely together on the FREED pathway.
  • To ensure that agreed standards and performance measures are met and there is a continuous drive towards service improvement and risk reduction
  • To be responsible for the co-ordination and management of the teams in providing a safe, effective and therapeutic clinical team ensuring the delivery of high quality community mental health care packages
  • To be responsible for working closely with clinicians and professionals and support staff within the service to audit outcomes and promote best practice.
  • Work towards a culture where services are seamlessly integrated.
  • To develop robust interagency relationships with, Children, Young People and Families services, relevant adult services and other key agencies, supporting the development of integrated care pathways and locality working.
  • To ensure all patients and Carers are included in all the work we do and structures are developed to incorporate users at all levels

About us

The CYP Eating Disorder Service is a Pathway within the Buckinghamshire Child Adolescent Mental Health Service.

The aim of the CYP ED service is to promote and provide rapid support and treatment for young people and families experiencing eating disorders. The service aims to restore physical health and psychological wellbeing in a safe and collaborative manner.

The CYP ED team is a well-established, highly skilled and friendly team to work within. The team pride's itself in its positive culture and well functioning multidisciplinary team (MDT) way of working. The MDT consists of clinicians from a range of specialisms including psychology, nursing, dietetics, family therapy and psychiatry. We see securing a highly skilled leader and manager as key to the effective functioning of our service.

People Management

  • To take operational responsibility for the Team. This includes monitoring and managing workloads, use of time, operational supervision, authorising leave and expenses
  • To be responsible for the co-ordination and management of the teams in providing a safe, effective and therapeutic clinical team ensuring the delivery of high quality community mental health care packages
  • To deploy staff to meet demand and to address any variance in demand across the counties or short term deficiencies in cover
  • To actively support individual continuous professional development of staff in partnership with appropriate professional leads
  • To manage any disciplinary or performance situations that arise within the patch
  • To provide, maintain and develop community mental health care to the optimum standard possible within the resources provided.

Partnership working

  • To work in partnership with Key agencies within the counties to ensure robust relationships, safeguarding and shared outcomes for children, young people and adults.
  • To support the development of integrated care pathways and ensure seamless transition across the life span service (including FREED) between CYP ED and Adult Community ED.
  • To build strong strategic and operational relationships between the CAMHS clinical Pathways and associated Community Teams, Children Young people and Families, in-patient services and with adult mental health services.

Professional and Education/Training Skills

  • Maintains an effective learning environment for the team and all students seconded to the teams
  • Keeps up to date with legislation, evidence-based practice and has a clear understanding of good practice
  • Follows professional guidelines and Codes of Practice as laid down by the NMC or relevant governing body

Budget Management

  • To plan and manage the budget for services in a way which ensures that resources are optimised.
  • To work closely with the Service Manager to determine properly costed service plans and to ensure their achievement through budgetary control
  • To be accountable for seeing that the budgets for the services they are responsible for are managed within resource

General Management

  • To participate in the on call Clinical Team Managers CAMHS and Specialist rota
  • To ensure that the Service is friendly and responsive and deals with complaints and suggestions in a timely and efficient manner. Able to work positively with clients or carers who express verbal concerns or complaints about the service and attempt early and effective resolution in conjunction with the PALS Service
  • To coordinate and investigate complaints and SUIs
  • To ensure that all sites and services have, and use, adequate and up to date policies including those for fire, health and safety and environmental risk.
  • To provide cover for the other Team Managers or the Service Manager as required
  • To ensure that accommodation, facilities and staff are organised to enable effective provision of services
