We are looking for an enthusiastic Lead Practitioner in Positive Behavior Support (PBS) to work in our Learning Disability Medium Secure Forensic Unit in Oxford to take the lead for ensuring that the service operates to maximise the patients quality of life through the use of PBS.

Main duties of the job

We are a 10 bedded unit with a first rate nursing and multi-disciplinary team approach. Wespecialise in the care and support of men with Learning Disabilities to meet their Physical Health, Mental Health and Forensic needs.

We uses the Positive Behavioral Support Framework to understand behaviors of concern, to educate, and to communicate needs in a more effective and safe manner.

We use a values based approach to use kind words, with a safe space and a listening ear to deliver care which is Safe, Caring and Excellent.

About us

Our aim is to develop skills to live safely in the community and support individuals to plan for their forever home. We prioritise reducing risk via education, formulation and skill building. We have received training for our staff from BILD and have PBS coaches as part of our staff teams and we want someone to lead that work. The post holder will, work alongside the Charge Nurses to Lead shifts with time aside to promoting and develop PBS plans within the ward.

The post holder will provide training and teach as an associate lecturer for our Masters Level PBS module, run in conjunction with Oxford Brookes University (if you dont have a teaching qualification we will support you to gain one).

Please note:

  • New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
  • Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
  • Appointment to this post is subject to the trust receiving satisfactory references covering 3 years of employment or study. Please ask your referees to respond promptly to reference requests.
  • Employees are expected to undertake mandatory and statutory training related to their role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registration in Nursing all field or Associated Social care qualification.
  • Intermediate PBS training (National Qualifications Level 5 or above) OR willingness to undertake.

Desirable

  • MSc relevant to working with people with learning disabilities.
  • Qualification in Applied Behaviour Analysis

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 1 year experience of working in services for people with learning disabilities using PBS

  • Experience of a leadership role within PBS.
