Job summary

To be responsible for and provide the clinical and professional leadership for Allied Health Professionals as agreed within the Learning Disability Service for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and to enable strategic development of the professions in accordance with national and local NHS guidance.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • ensure high quality professional leadership for AHPs working within the LD Service.
  • ensure that AHPs are championed within the Trust and that all their skills are used to the fullest potential.
  • provide expert clinical input at 0.4 of their working hours to the most highly complex cases.
  • ensure that there is a robust approach to quality improvement and research in the field of LD that applies to AHPs
  • work with wider AHPs Leads in the Trust to ensure we are working in line with the NHS LD Improvement Standards.
  • have input into the strategic direction of service delivery.
  • join the Learning Disability on on call rota

About us

This is an opportunity to work in a well established innovative service. There are three well-established LD Community Teams, an Intensive Support Team who meets the needs of those with complex needs and at risk of hospital admission and also our newly formed Reasonable Adjustment Service who support those with Autism without LD.

The purpose of all of our services is to improve the health and life opportunities of people with a learning disability and autistic people, reduce health inequalities, increase life expectancy and quality of life in line with the Trust's overall strategic objectives.

The LD Service is a small service within Oxford Health NHS Trust, but with big ambitions and the staff within the service are engaged, enthusiastic and supportive of each other. This is a new role that offers the right candidate the chance to become part of a fabulous service, where their skills and abilities will be fully supported to make a real difference to people's lives.

They will provide expert consultation and intervention for clients with high complex clinical needs. They will do this be using highly developed, specialist knowledge and skills to ensure a high standard of professional assessment, treatment and care of those open to the service.

  • New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
  • Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
