Job summary
We are very excited to announce that the South Central NHS Health Education England has confirmed funding for a new Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Trainee position which will be based at South Oxfordshire CAMHS, The Clock House, 22-26 Ock St, Abingdon, OX14 5SW.
We will accept applicants at the following points in their training:
- Year 2 of the training- In second year of ACP pre-clinical recognised training course and able to be employed as an Band 5 Assistant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist for one year.
- Years 3-6 of the training - Have been accepted by ACP recognised clinical training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy in an ACP approved training school and will be based in CAMHS for the duration of the training.
The funding extends over 5 years to include both the 2nd Year of an ACP (Association of Child Psychotherapy) approved pre-clinical component and the 4 years of the clinical training.
The funding will cover training fees, salary and a significant contribution towards personal analysis and travel.
Successful applicants will already need to be on an ACP recognised pre-clinical training course or have been accepted for the ACP recognised Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy clinical training.
Main duties of the job
Below is a schedule of the clinical, study and training hours across each week.
1.0 FTE (37 hours per week)
0.8 FTE - Clinical Role/Study,
0.2 FTE - Training School
Clinical Duties: Under the supervision of the Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist the post holder may in Year 2:
- Provide direct therapeutic work with children, young people and parents and engage in joint work with other members of the team
- Provide limited counselling and brief therapy with children, young people and their parents
- Maintain an appropriate caseload
- Maintain clinical case records and summaries consistent with confidentiality, professional practice and in accordance with Trust Clinical Governance policy
- Participate in regular reviews and case discussions with colleagues in the tea
- Ensure appropriate liaison and joint work with other agencies contributing to young people's and families' mental health needs

Job responsibilities
Applicants, as a minimum, will need to have completed the first year of the pre-clinical training recognised by the Association of Child Psychotherapists. This assumes they will already be working with children and young people in a professional capacity and that they have an interest in and some understanding of psychoanalytical thinking. Those undertaking or having already successfully completed an ACP approved pre-clinical training, will also be eligible to apply and may be able to step on in Year 2 and hence complete the training in 5 years.
If successful applicants have not already, they will subsequently need to apply independently to, and be accepted by, one of the Training Schools accredited by the Association of Child Psychotherapists before being able to proceed to the full clinical training. This is not assured by being offered one of these traineeships. Equally, if the applicant is not successful with her/his application to the full clinical training her / his contract with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust will be terminated. The clinical training contract is based on the trainees holding a place at the training school. If a trainees place at the training school is terminated, the contract will also be terminated.
