The Forensic Psychology department is seeking to recruit a Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychologist to join to join our multidisciplinary low secure in-patient service, based at Woodlands House, Aylesbury.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high quality psychological service within the unit, engaging with a challenging but rewarding population.

They will be encouraged to become actively involved in the identity of those services, furthering the recovery agenda, and the promotion of psychological-mindedness across the low secure services.

We welcome a range of psychological models and reflective thinking and creative approaches are highly valued.

There is an emphasis on close multi-disciplinary team working. Staff support and working with families/carers are an important part of the role.

There will also be opportunities to lead on service wide projects in order to contribute significantly to improving the quality of the psychological services that we provide.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in Clinical, Counselling or Forensic psychology.
  • Eligibility for entry onto the Register of Chartered Psychologists.

Desirable

  • Post qualification training in specialist area of clinical work, relevant to a forensic population

Knowledge

Essential

  • Well developed theoretical and practical knowledge of the field of clinical, counselling or forensic psychology, consistent with doctoral level professional training.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific 'difficult to treat' groups (e.g. personality disorder, challenging behaviour, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc).

Skills

Essential

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment commensurate with doctoral level training, including specialist clinical interviewing, behavioural observation, complex psychometric testing and specialist neuropsychological testing.
  • Skills commensurate with doctoral level training in the formulation of problems from a psychological perspective and in the implementation of highly specialist psychological therapies, interventions and management techniques that are appropriate for use with complex presenting problems. Able to deliver established/evidenced based psychological therapy to fidelity.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, with clients of all ages across the lifespan and of wide-ranging presenting problems that reflect the full spectrum of clinical complexity and severity.

Desirable

  • Experience of working therapeutically with 'difficult to treat' clients.
