Job summary
Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is looking to recruit a General Portering Supervisor to work in our busy Portering department.
Responsible for day to day operational supervision and deployment of staff to ensure all operational areas receive their allocated portering services. Responsible for work rotas, training and leadership for staff within the department. Organise and prioritise duties to all staff within your area of responsibility.
We are looking for someone who is, enthusiastic, personable, creative, organised, and flexible. As you will be responsible for managing a large team of general porters, you will need strong leadership skills with the ability to engage, instruct, motivate whilst remaining calm under pressure.
Delivering Portering duties in accordance with work schedules and practices, working 37.5 hrs over any 5 days in a 7-day week, this will include night work.
Main duties of the job
Organise and run shift so as to achieve the needs of the trust
Liaise with various trust staff and departments to provide a flexible service as required by the trust
Set up daily log for next day's shift
When required use Portering system to record all general Portering jobs
Use E-Rostering and keep records of Annual Leave, Sickness and absence up to date.
Keep staff personnel files up to date
Support staff in all training required by the Trust both Mandatory and departmental and record all training in accordance with both the trust and departmental requirements.

Keep up to date records on all staffing absence
Complete all required appraisals for Portering staff
Complete and record Back to work interviews for staff that have been off work and record as required
Transport patients within the hospital in conjunction with Trust policies and departmental procedures.
Undertake general mortuary duties in accordance with the agreed procedures.
Conduct viewings in accordance with trust policy
Collection and delivery of gas cylinders, beds, equipment, and furniture around the hospital site.
Change medical gas manifolds as required
In appropriate circumstances, assist nursing and medical staff, when requested, with restless patients.
Assist security staff where necessary to ensure the safety of staff, patients, visitors, and Trust property.
Undertake all training as necessary to enable satisfactory and competent completion of role, and have a good understanding and knowledge of the relevant trust policies for the Portering department.
Maintain high standards of personal presentation and hygiene during the performance of his/her duties
Work closely with Managers in producing a high standard of service to patients, staff and visitors.
Flexibility in areas of work and have a good working knowledge of the roles that Portering staff provide around the trust
All duties will be carried out in accordance with the Departmental Health & Safety Policy.
Any other work commensurate with the post or as requested by the Line Manager.
These duties and responsibilities may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Directorate and in particular the post holder may be required to provide support to other areas within the department as required and to carry out any relevant duties that may be requested.
