Senior Patient Catering Supervisor

Job summary

The role is essential in supervising our host/hostess support across the wards of the hospital, - therefore as Senior Patient Catering Supervisor you will supervise our patient catering ward host/hostess team, you also need to be competent in delivering advice and support to staff.

You will be expected to use your own initiative and able to work unsupervised, undertaking specific project work as necessary.

As a Senior Patient Catering Supervisor you be working collaboratively with other supervisors and managers but referring to a manager, you will be responsible for team rotas, delivering training to existing and new members of staff.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to plan and manage a range of duties, organise own work and that of others to meet deadlines and respond professionally to queries and issues

As a Senior Patient Catering Supervisor, you be working collaboratively with other supervisors and managers but referring to a manager, youwill be responsible for team rotas, delivering training to existing and new members of staff.

IT skills are required, as you will be using several different systems, such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, along with various Trust based systems for training and payroll (ESR)

Job description

Job responsibilities

To manage own working time and duties working on own initiative with autonomy, scheduling, chairing team meetings with follow up meetings as appropriate and referring to the deputy manager as and when necessary.

To organise, create and adjust rotas, ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained through ward shift patterns and 24 hours per day cover in A&E, 365 days a year, including arranging extra duties and cover as and when required.

Co-ordinating deployment of staff to ensure all operational areas receive a host/hostess to carry out hydration rounds, food delivery service and cleaning services.

Carry out weekly audits at ward level with team members and sign off on cleaning schedules.

Supervise the catering hosts with delivery of the catering service in line with National Standards for Healthcare Food and Drink, & National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness.

To provide training, guidance, direction, and leadership to host/hostess staff regarding their duties and responsibilities. Supporting at ward level with host/hostess to ensure all deliver a flawless customer service experience.

Be a first level trainer, working one on one to ensure that each employee works to the correct standards. Ensuring that the employee is fully trained on food safety and allergen awareness.

Supporting at ward level and to help to deliver where staffing or other shortfalls arise, carry out hydration rounds, food delivery service and cleaning services

To be able to use equipment physically and accurately. To clean, adjust and maintain ward kitchen equipment. Producing SOPS/Risk assessments and recording maintenance checks for equipment.

To ensure all hazards or equipment faults are escalated and reported to line manager and rectified.

Undertake staff appraisals and personal development plans, in line with trust policy, ensuring that appraisal data is maintained and up to date

Plan, organise and undertake staff reviews during their probationary period, in line with trust policy.

Assist line managers with shortlisting staff applications, recruitment and the induction and orientation of new staff, in line with the trust procedures. This may also entail working off site for recruitment open days

Undertake return to work interviews following periods of absence, referring staff to line management if/when individual staff members exceed absences in line with trust policy.

Monitor and complete attendance records on payroll system, time keeping and performance, ensuring that conduct that is outside of acceptable standards is brought to the attention of line managers and individuals concerned and following the appropriate Trust policies and procedures

Be the first line in dealing with disciplinary matters, ensuring that any or persistent issues are reported to senior management in a timely fashion.as per Trust policy

To support line with any investigations of a disciplinary / performance nature regarding staff.

Organise catering staff annual leave applications, ensuring the needs of the service is met and maintained.

Investigate problems/issues with staff at ward level and provide solutions with operational decisions and appropriate delegation of staff and duties

Liaise with wards, departments, to resolve any day-to-day problems that may arise along with co-ordinating with external contractors when needed

Produce cleaning Frequencies and Schedules in line with National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness to all areas of the trust.

Promote and assist with effective quality control procedures (ward/departmental environmental and efficacy audits) which monitors work carried out maintaining statutory compliance of NSC and IPC legislation, providing regular feedback to line managers and HS manager .

Bring to the attention of the management team any issues that may adversely affect the provision of a high-quality catering service.

To provide relevant patient catering data on spreadsheets to show activity as required and directed by the Hotel Services Manager and Catering Services Manager.

Managing and controlling cleaning consumables/chemicals to ensure economic usage and reducing waste ensuring budgetary targets are not exceeded.

Plan own work and that of the team to ensure the agreed service level is always maintained

Ensure that risk assessments and operating procedures for host/hostess related work are in place and are reviewed annually, making changes where appropriate with liaison with the Deputy, Catering Services Manager.

Ensure all work is carried out to the appropriate standard and following the departments procedures, including the appropriate use of PPE.

To report faults and environmental damage in ward areas, ward kitchens and the wider Trust to Trust property through line manager and Datix system

Ensure appropriate records, including staff records are kept up to date. Produce reports in keeping with the Trusts and line managers requirements.

Maintain high standards of personal presentation and hygiene during the performance of duties.

All duties will be carried out in accordance with the Departmental instructions, Trust Policies and Procedures and Health & Safety Policy.
