Job summary
This is an opportunity to join our ambitious and forward looking Acute Medicine Service as a Consultant Physician, based at Northampton General Hospital.
The post is a new fixed term (locum consultant) appointment for a Acute Medicine (10 PAs), with opportunities for part time work for applicants who may prefer this option. The post includes sessions providing high quality care for our patients in the Same Day Emergency Care Unit, acute medical take and within our modern 66-bed Nye Bevan Acute Assessment Unit.
We welcome any candidates with sub specialty interests. We have potential roles in Medical Education, Ultrasound training and Digital Health but any specialist interest will be considered and accommodated if possible. These can be discussed on an individual basis depending on your personal ambitions. You will of course be working as part of a wider MDT, but also autonomously.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
Duties entail provision of a comprehensive acute medical service alongside Consultant colleagues, provision of reciprocal cover for periods of annual/study leave; and continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and the proper functioning of the department.
During the medical take, the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under their care. The Consultant's role is to assess and review patients, sometimes prior to junior review and sometimes afterwards facilitating earlier 'senior' decision-making and high quality clinical care. All duties within Acute Medicine are rostered and other clinical commitments must be timed so that they do not clash with these duties.
Other Duties
Any positions offered by bodies outside the Trust, (e.g. Training Programme Director, Regional College Advisor, Royal College Representative etc.) must be discussed and agreed by the Head of Service in advance of the position being accepted.
