Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the gastroenterology department for two full time (37.5hrs per week over 5 days) Band 6 Liver specialist nurses.

The post holders will be members of a specialist nursing team responsible for a caseload of patients who are identified as requiring regular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance.

Duties will include requesting and interpreting blood tests and imaging, managing an advice line for those with liver cirrhosis, undertaking face to face and telephone clinics, performing fibroscan (Transient elastography) on patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting (Training will be provided), participating in community & corporate fibroscan events to aid with early detection of liver disease, liaise with a wider team of professionals including specialist nurses, consultants, GPs, and other hospital trusts.

Main duties of the job

The post holder(s) will be responsible for overseeing the liver cancer surveillance of individuals at risk of liver cancer.

This will involve organising blood testing and abdominal ultrasound scans, interpreting results and discussing concerns with the wider MDT and patients directly.

The post holder(s) will assist the viral hepatitis specialist nurses in increasing the early detection of liver disease through use of fibro scanning (Transient Elastography).

The post holder(s) will need excellent communication skills as well as exceptional organisational and time keeping skills.

The post holder(s) will also require good IT skills as use of spreadsheets and databases both local and national will be required within the role.
