Job summary

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the above post comprising of 4 months of General Surgery at Northampton General Hospital.

This post is to join the FY1 tier on the Full Shift Rota, to cover a short-term vacancy unfilled by Deanery Trainees. This would be an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to the NHS and provide a footstep for applying for Foundation Training/Core Training.

Contract for 4 months fixed term +/- extendable - Full time Start date: 4th December 2024

Main duties of the job

There is a FY1 post available within the department of surgery offering the successful candidates the opportunity to train in General Surgery, mainly colorectal surgery. You will participate in a full shift 1 in 20 rota covering Urology, Vascular and General Surgery emergencies. The Department of Surgery has ten GI Surgeons

The post is available from December 2024 until April 2025 with an opportunity to extend further for suitable candidates. This is a service post but clinical and surgical training will be provided to suit the candidate's needs. Specifically, candidates will be supported to obtain competencies to be able to apply for core training programmes and MRCS qualifications. The post holder may take up a whole time, part time or job share contract.

Duties will include the full range of clinical activities mainly care of admitted patients, general surgery ward rounds, general surgical on call and supporting the emergency theatres. Additionally, successful candidates will be supported in research and audit activity. The Trust has a strong Medical Education department with regular teaching for Foundation Trainees and a tailored programme for international medical graduates.

On Call Commitment
