Job summary
A new and exciting opportunity is advertised for a Urology Consultant to join our Urology team. This is a permanent post for a 7th urology consultant. This is a new post and applicants with skills that complement the department would be welcome. The department is open to candidates developing their own subspecialty interests. An interest in core urology and competence in bladder outflow surgery/functional urology would be desirable.
The successful applicant will be a 7th new consultant post, joining 6 substantive consultants, based at Northampton General Hospital delivering high quality elective and emergency urological services to the catchment area.

Main duties of the job
- To fully participate of elective and emergency urological service (this includes management of common paediatric inguino-scrotal conditions
- To provide highest possible levels of patient care
- To work as an active member of the Urology team
- To actively remain clinically competent

Responsible to: Chief Executive / Medical Director of Northampton General Hospital Trust and at local level to the Clinical Director for Surgery.
The agreed job plan comprises a total of 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week. This consists of 8.5 direct clinical care PAs and a minimum of 1.5 supporting professional activity PAs. The job plan will be reviewed at 6 months to ensure the candidates PAs are adequately provided.
The consultants have recently moved to a consultant of the week (COW) on-call model and are freed from elective activities to review emergency admissions and attend a Friday prostate MRI review meeting. Triage of one-stop referrals will be a part of the COW morning duties. The current frequency of consultant on calls is 1 in 7.
The job plan job will be subject to agreement between Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust and the appointee. There is a strong commitment to ensure equitable working conditions for all consultants. Additional duties such as educational supervision will be reflected within the job plan by agreement.
