Job summary

We have an exciting senior physiotherapist secondment position working within the Elective Pathway Team at Northampton General Hospital. The Secondment period is for 12 months starting in July. This job role is a perfect opportunity to gather experience working at a Band 6 level within Trauma and Orthopaedics. If you are currently a band 5 or 6 physiotherapist and looking to gather experience at the next level or you wish to gather further experience working within Trauma and Orthopaedics this position is perfect for you.

Our multidisciplinary team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapist, Nurses, Assistant Practitioners and Therapy instructors. Our unique pathway allows us to follow our patients journey from pre-operatively to post-operatively by providing excellent knowledge, support and sufficient treatment. Predominantly this pathway is aimed at total hip replacements, knee replacements and joint revisions.

Main duties of the job

It is expected of the Band 6 senior therapist to use their experienced clinical judgment to facilitate and deliver high quality and effective therapeutic care for our patients rehabilitation journey. The senior physiotherapist will assess the patient following the elective orthopaedic surgery guided by the consultants protocol instructions.

Working as part of a wide multidisciplinary team, the successful applicant must be able to independently manage their own patient caseload and delegate duties across the team. This comes with having the correct style of communication skills to make sure the team is aware of what is being asked of them, leading towards an efficient and honest service. It is important to have the courage to reach out to the orthopaedic consultants or doctors when required to provide the correct and safe action when treating post operative patients.

Non-clinical duties are required from the senior physiotherapist to assist the band 7 with current and ongoing audits, service development plans and staff teaching and training.

It is essential to have a full driving licence and desirable to have access to a car for this job role. All fuel expenses are paid.

Previous experience of working in an orthopaedic department is essential.
