Job summary
We are looking to recruit Junior Clinical Fellows to the department of acute medicine/urgent care at Northampton General Hospital to start from the next academic year in August, or potentially sooner.
The posts are suitable for doctors looking to gain more acute medicine experience prior to starting Internal Medicine Training, GP Training or before applying for ST3 posts.
NGH has a strong track record of nurturing trust grades towards their chosen further training. It is because of this success that we re-recruit each year, and these posts are available now as we expect the majority of the JCFs currently working with us to be successful in their applications to Internal Medicine Training, GP specialist training and Higher Specialist Training from August 2023.
We very much enjoy welcoming back as SPR and Consultant those who have first come to the NHS as JCF with us. Many of our consultants are 'home-grown' NGH trained and there is a hospital wide ethos of supporting junior doctors in developing their careers. We support CESR development to consultant grade and are developing local rotations with our neighbours at Kettering General Hospital and Leicester to enable this.
Acute medicine within the urgent care directorate at NGH provides trainees with the opportunity to gain experience of all the medical specialties on one site.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside their ward team of Consultants, SpRs, SCF and other junior medical staff along with all other multidisciplinary health care professionals.
The successful candidate will be allocated an educational and clinical supervisor and encouraged to complete training assessments in line with other trainees at the same level. This includes access to our highly successful Simulation Suite and to JCF - specific training in the Nye Bevan. The training programme is based on the JRCPTB IMT core curriculum and includes mentorship in applying for IMT, GPvST etc.
We wish to appoint candidates with a good foundation in Medicine who are looking towards a career in Medicine, or who wish to broaden their experience before a career choice.
