Job summary
Northampton General Hospital are looking for 2 Locum Consultant Community Paediatricians pending a substantive appointment. These posts offer an exciting opportunity for those Paediatricians who wish to work in a large District General Hospital setting which has a fully integrated Child Health Department. You will join a creative multi-disciplinary team that is forward thinking in shaping the healthcare of the children and young people of Northamptonshire as it evolves to the needs of the growing population. You will be part of a team of supportive consultants; with the opportunity to further develop a complimentary subspecialty interest within the Community Paediatric service . We seek to support any complimentary personal professional development and interest.
The Children's community services at Northampton General hospital work closely with our special schools and health centres helping to bring services out into the community as well as having hospital-based services.
Main duties of the job
Our multidisciplinary teams run a wide range of comprehensive services to our patients including:
- Child Development Service
- Dedicated Children's Outpatients on 2 sites
- Autism Spectrum Disorder Service
- ADHD and QB testing Service
- Children in Care service including Pre-adoption medicals and initial Health assessments.
- Community based Child development services - special schools/health centres
- Community based nursing teams
- Audio vestibular medicine service
- Children's safeguarding service
Typical Community Paediatric Consultant's job profile includes
- To provide expertise in the assessment, investigation, and continuity of care of children presenting with a range of developmental, genetic and neurological problems.
- To provide expert assessment of children presenting with social communication /neurodevelopmental disorders
- To provide clinical assessment and opinion in children presenting with safeguarding concerns. Participation in a child protection on call rota, covering normal working hours Monday-Friday. Participation in strategy discussions for CSA (CSA examinations currently carried out by Serenity SARC).
- To support the clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff.
- To take a full role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including clinical meetings and tutorials.
- To actively participate in clinical governance, audit, and risk management processes

The role involves travel between sites, so access to private transport for work purposes is essential.
The appointee must be trained in Community Paediatrics and should have completed higher specialist training (or recognised equivalent) and be on the specialist register or within 6 months of registration at the time of interview..
