Job summary

This is a very exciting opportunity for an experienced healthcare professional to join our Dermatology team at Northampton General Hospital.

You will be working in a development role as a trainee advanced practitioner specialising in Dermatology. Under supervision you will carry out extended roles covering various outpatient Dermatology clinics and undertake routine advanced physical assessments of the Dermatology patient.

The post holder will provide safe and effective care through advanced knowledge, critical decision making and extended skills. They will be responsible for managing care through a comprehensive assessment and physical examination of Dermatology patients who present via outpatient referrals.

The post holder will order and interpret diagnostic tests for patients presenting with a variety of Dermatological conditions and will be responsible for compiling management plans, incorporating safe non-medical prescribing practice and will work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

This is a new role, and the successful post holder will be a caring, compassionate, and committed nurse or AHP who is currently undertaking or has completed a recognised MSc programme.

The post will develop the knowledge and skills in the early detection and intervention of clinical deterioration in existing medical conditions. You will become confident to identify and treat patients requiring Biologics treatment, systemic treatment, and patch testing, learning to carry out biopsies in clinic independently.

Through ongoing professional development and learning, you will demonstrate safe, competent clinical decision-making and expert care, eventually working as an autonomous practitioner and lead on tele-derm clinics.

Some common examples of conditions you will see, assess and treat will include skin cancers, acne, psoriasis, eczema, contact dermatitis, wounds, and bullous conditions.

Advanced clinical knowledge and skills are required to work as a core member of this team. You will possess evidence of clinical leadership, managing change and possess excellent communication skills with the ability to manage resources, people and situations effectively, whilst keeping a calm head in a challenging environment.

You will also be keen to advance your skill set, as you will be prepared to complete any extra training required for the role so that you can lead on clinical procedures such as skin biopsies.
