Healthcare Assistant - Esther White Ward

Work as an effective member of the team, providing high quality care for patients under the supervision of a registered health care professional. Promote good communication that supports the dignity, care and safety of the patients. Assist in maintaining a safe working environment and the provision of compassionate care.

Due to the shift patterns required within the HCA post you will also need to evidence that you have reached the age of 18 by your start date in line with Working Time Regulations.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for individuals who want a new challenge and have a passion to do things differently. You will be part of a dynamic and exciting team making exciting changes that will affect the way the hospital is run from the front door and throughout.

We are an extremely friendly and hardworking team that welcome new members to our team. We have a network of support available to all our staff and offer extensive training and refresher courses. It is a great place to enhance the skills you already have and gain a multitude of new skills with the support and guidance of a great team.

We offer a bedside emergency assessment course for health care assistants provided by practice development team that will help you to gain knowledge and skills to allow you to look after the acutely unwell patients. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills in cannulation, venepuncture, ECG, urinalysis and glucometer training.

You will also have ongoing development opportunities if you would like to further your career with us, such as the Healthcare Support Worker Level 3 Diploma, Nursing Associate and Registered Nurse programmes.

As part of the recruitment process we will invite you to attend an interview day which will include Literacy and Numeracy test.

If successful, you will be provided with a three week full time training programme, which will give you the knowledge to perform this role.

Supporting Clinical & Patient ExcellenceAssisting patients to meet their personal hygiene requirements, i.e.: bed bath, shower and hair washing etc.Meeting the patients nutritional needs including supporting patients at meal times, completion of fluid balance charts and food charts and reporting any concerns to the registered nurse.Safe manual handling of patients after establishing best method, following completion of the manual handling assessment form by a registered nurse.Be proactive in the prevention of pressure ulcer development.Maintain safety of patients, personal clothing and property in accordance with agreed policies related to security and confidentiality.

The collection of specimens, i.e. stool, urine, mid-stream urine, catheter specimen of urine, sputum and wound swabs.

Documenting admission details which include next of kin, social situation and details of patient property.Assist patients in meeting their continence needs, i.e.: taking them to the toilet, providing a commode, monitoring urine and bowel movements.- Report any abnormalities/concerns to a registered nurse.

Recognising the Equality and Diversity of patients, clients, relatives and multi- disciplinary groups by supporting non-discriminatory practice & acknowledging the patients personal beliefs and identity.Maintaining a clean and tidy environment, including bed areas, store cupboards, sluice, treatment room and equipment used for procedures.Undertaking the cleaning of ward equipment, according to policy and procedure.
