Job summary

We are looking for a new Chief Digital Information Officer to provide world class digital services to the newly formed provider collaborative of University Hospitals Leicester (UHL) and the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group (Kettering General Hospital and Northampton General Hospital).

UHL and UHN have a joint Chair, John MacDonald, and a Joint CEO, Richard Mitchell, and are the first acute provider collaborative in the East Midlands. An early key priority is to recruit into this important new senior role. Both organisations share the belief that if we consistently and effectively look after our colleagues, they will deliver excellent patient care. There is collective focus on ensuring our values translate into an everyday reality for all.

UHL is a multi-site provider of integrated healthcare and serves people from Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and beyond. The turnover is £1.5bn and 17,000 colleagues work in the Trust. The UHN Group includes Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust with a combined turnover of circa £900M and 11,000 colleagues. UHL and UHN have long standing clinical and workforce relationships and jointly serve a population of over 2 million people.

As two university teaching hospitals, teaching and research are important, and we will continue to strengthen our wide-ranging academic partnerships which will support improved patient outcomes and exciting opportunities for colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) will lead on ensuring UHL and UHN have a shared digital and data infrastructure providing a platform for transformation. Working together, digital will be recognised as a strategic enabler supporting our expectation that all patients receive the same standard of care we would want for our friends and family. Technology across all organisations should be relentlessly focused on the needs of users and facilitate improved outcomes for patients.

The CDIO will develop a strategic plan for technology across UHL and UHN, focussing on the things we do well whilst bringing in industry leading technologies.

The CDIO will be a full member of both boards. They will support the CEO and will contribute beyond their portfolio to the success of the trusts. The CDIO will lead digital and data teams that are fully embedded in both organisations. This role will require the CDIO to align and prioritise the needs of disparate teams and stakeholders.

The CDIO will also be involved in the emerging work across the East Midlands Acute Providers Network.
