Job summary

The role will provide senior leadership to the nursing workforce within the Divisions and Directorates of Northampton General Hospital. This involves supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Professional Nurses Advocates (PNAs) and their role in delivering frontline professional mentorship.

The lead PNA will use the "A-EQUIP" model (advocating for education and quality improvement) to ensure effective implementation of the programme. The lead PNA will play a crucial role in facilitating staff and team development, as well as establishing and maintaining effective communication systems for the PNA service within the Divisions.

They will be responsible for strategically implementing the PNA programme across the Trust, working closely with the Lead Nurse for Pathway to Excellence to support the development of the PNA workforce and the monitoring of their data and activities ensuring that required PNA data is submitted to the provider workforce return (PWR) monthly.

The post holder will also ensure this data and analysis of the data is presented quarterly at the Nursing and Midwifery board to enable themes from PNA sessions to be actioned at a senior nursing level. The role is aligned with the Pathway to Excellence programme and the NMAHP strategy to embed a strategy for professional engagement of restorative practice.

Main duties of the job

Take a lead role for PNA across the Trust, chairing the shared governance group and lead on establishing a countywide PNA community of practice.

To role model the PNA role and enact change through this in supporting teams to develop and establish the PNA role within teams.

To actively promote and educate teams about the PNA role and framework.

To work with colleagues to ensure the sustainability of PNA development, initiatives and practices.

To develop a robust PNA restorative supervision model throughout the Trust that will effectively support, supervise and coach practitioners in practice.

The PNA Lead will be responsible for ensuring the Trust meets and delivers on the expected standards of professional bodies and academic partners in relation to PNA learners.

Establish a process for recruitment and selection for staff wishing to train as PNAs.

Utilise the clinical governance framework in developing service user's involvement.

The Trust PNA lead will liaise with university partners, Chief Nursing Officer PNA Regional Advisors and Integrated Care Partnerships to ensure the PNA role is embedded systemwide.
