Management and Leadership
To establish and maintain productive working relationships and communications with key stakeholders both internal and external.
To contribute to relevant internal and external committees and forums, and represent the Trust as required.
To provide PNA progress reports aligned to measurable project deliverables to the senior nursing team, divisional staff, and other key stakeholders external to NGH.
To act as an effective professional role model to others.
To work collaboratively with key stakeholders across the Trust (Divisional and Directorate Leads, Ward Managers, Modern Matrons, AHPs, Clinical and Non-Clinical frontline staff) to enable the implementation of the PNA role.
Provide expert advice as appropriate, in relation to the implementation of the PNA role within NGH Lead and motivate staff to ensure a high standard of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement.
Liaise with the regional PNA programme lead to roll out good practice guidance across nursing teams within NGH.
Responsibility for the ongoing development and sustainability of high quality and innovative practice and PNA development within the Trust.
To establish a restorative supervision structure for PNAs within the organisation.
Lead on quality improvements and benchmarking activities and ensure that service development is planned in accordance with local and national priorities.
To lead on the development and review of trust guidelines relating to PNA across the Trust.
To maintain the Trusts register of qualified PNAs and those in training.
To monitor and complete any national PNA data returns.
Evaluate PNA activity and themes arising from PNA sessions. Ensuring these themes are reported at Nursing and Midwifery Board.
To analyse and present findings from Quality Improvement Projects and information systems within required deadlines.
Maintain external links with national bodies to ensure our practice is in line with national guidance.
To contribute to achieving the overall financial goals of the organisation and the monitoring and effective use of resources.
To contribute to the corporate strategic and business agenda by promoting a culture of quality, learning, performance and development.

Empower Ward Managers supporting the development of their role through enabling them to acquire and maintain appropriate management skills, which enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

Professional Supervisory Role
Support Registered Nurses to identify their own personal action for quality improvement.
Lead on and deliver the implementation of Restorative Clinical supervision (RCS) programme for staff.
The post holder will use their understanding of personal and professional resilience and support others to develop this attribute.
Ensure that there is a strong interface between the PNA, clinical governance and the divisions.
Lead on the allocation of PNA courses for NGH, and the mentorship structure.
Use their expert knowledge in nursing practice to support senior nursing teams in implementing and monitoring nursing practice ensuring that there are robust clinical governance assurance systems in place.
Provide support to Registered Nurses and Nursing Associates in sharing of good practice and risk management processes with the aim of reducing the incidence of harm.
Be involved in continuous monitoring and maintaining quality standards of clinical practice through a variety of ways for example audit, working clinically with those who require additional support and development and to support the wider PNA team to gain understanding of how this can be delivered from within their role as PNA.
Act as a role model at all times and promote a high standard of safe and effective care which is based upon best evidence.
Lead on the utilisation of agreed metrics to demonstrate on going added value of the role of PNA and monitoring outcomes for staff and patients e.g. reduction in complaints, improved satisfaction surveys, reduction in sickness absence for Registered Nurses and improved retention of Registered Nurses.
Identify, collate, analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to inform the development of reports regarding the process, impact and outcome of the PNA role and the A-EQUIP model.
Oversee the Professional Advocates (PAs) across the Trust providing support and guidance including mentorship, service developments and access to supervision.
Supporting the Trusts Pathway to Excellence wellbeing standard.
Professional Participation
Play a lead role in improving services in line with national policies and where appropriate, take a lead role on the nursing issues related to the implementation of National Service Frameworks applicable to sphere of responsibility.
To lead the delivery of restorative clinical supervision to staff.
Take a lead role to ensure monthly reporting to nursing and midwifery board on matters relating to PNA activity and findings from referrals of staff members.
Advising and contributing to service development plans, in order to promote new initiatives and plans.
Take a lead role to develop links with other Divisional Teams in order to develop new service models and promote good relations and effective communication across the Trust.
To actively participate in relevant managerial meetings.
To actively participate in the development and delivery of the NMAHP Strategy to ensure a culture of pro-active interest, good communication and knowledge base of the Trust Strategy.
To participate in Trust projects/initiatives as appropriate.
To actively participate in maintaining own professional development, identifying own educational and clinical training needs with Line Manager.
To ensure own mandatory training certificates are current.
To maintain your own personal and professional development and attending mandatory study sessions as required.
To participate in reflective practice, and maintain a personal learning portfolio.
To keep up to date with NMC, relevant specialist and Trust guidelines and protocols.
To act as a resource to staff, providing advice, guidance and resources relating to relevant projects and initiatives.
To work with Human Resources leads and other key stakeholders to develop strategies which enhance staff recruitment, career development, workforce objectives and staff satisfaction.
Shared Governance
Support the Trust PNAs with the implementation of the NMAHP Strategy.
Demonstrate understanding of the role of the PNA within the context of national governance policies and procedures.
The PNA will act as a clinical role model for aspiring and newly appointed PNA.
Support the PNA team to develop a working environment and culture that actively improves health, safety and security.
Work at all times within the Professional Code of Conduct for nurses, taking accountability for professional actions and ensure that others do the same.
Actively support the review and implementation record keeping and documentation for adverse incident reporting and clinical risk management.
To monitor PNA performance against local and national Key Performance Indicators, taking action to continually improve performance.
Support the implementation of local and national initiatives, for example, Pathway to Excellence.
To act as an expert resource and provide advice on nursing care in relation to clinical interventions, policies, service development and delivery.
Challenge traditional practice, ensuring that best practices are identified and shared Trust wide, for example, supporting the implementation of the essence of care initiative, enabling awareness of the need to change practice and provide evidence based care in the workplace.
To develop health education/promotion strategies.
Develop practice in addressing individuals health and wellbeing needs.
Quality Improvement Work with the PNA team to assist in the implementation of any clinical guidelines or clinical practices as required to improve the quality and safety of the Adult services.
Responsible for policy implementation, service development for the PNA service.
To strive towards constant quality improvements within the areas.
Review trends reported by PNAs and devise relevant action plans.
Advising on specific speciality nursing issues.
To support the implementation of the Trust Nursing Strategy for PNA within their area of activity.
Education
To identify any learning opportunities for PNAs, with the aim of increasing the competence, capability and confidence for all PNAs
Promote and develop continuing professional development (CPD) for all PNAs across the Trust
To design, develop, co-ordinate educational activity related to PNA
To effectively evaluate and seek to improve educational delivery
To contribute to the strategic development of education for the PNA agenda for the Trust
To ensure the education delivery requirements of the trainee-PNAs are met, both internal and external to the Trust
Prepare and deliver presentations, participating in workshops on a local, regional and national level, to ensure the communication of good practice, where appropriate
