Job summary
This post is available for a Senior Clinical Fellowship in Diabetes and Endocrinology and Acute General Medicine based at Northampton General Hospital.
This post starts 2nd August and is available for a year with potential to extend. It replaces our current SCF who has been appointed to Higher Specialist Training in this specialty.
The appointee will work across all aspects of Diabetes and Endocrinology and will also take part in the 1 in 20 on call rota for Acute General Medicine.
This post is suitable for doctors wishing to pursue a career in Diabetes and Endocrinology and wish to gain further experience in the speciality before starting Higher Specialist Training. Northampton General Hospital has an excellent reputation for training junior doctors and a long tradition of our trainee doctors eventually taking up Consultant posts with us. We also have a very high success rate in our Clinical Fellows achieving appointment to their chosen training programmes.
Main duties of the job
The post will be based at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust where the successful candidate willjoin the two HST in Diabetesand Endocrinologyin sharing duties of ward cover, OPD, IP Endocrine referrals , IP Diabetes management etc. Training will be given at an appropriate level in all these skills and you will have senior support at all times. The majority of the successful candidate's time will be spent in Diabetes/Endocrinology.
The successful candidate will also take part in the Acute Medical Take and on call cover. This is a 1 in 10 shift for nights with two SpRs on each night. In addition there are 1 in 20 shifts for long-days on take Mon-Thurs, Fri - Sun, twilight shifts and ward cover day shifts Sat-Sun. We have provided a much safer level of overnight cover at middle grade by increasing the number of our SpRs from 11 to 20 so that there are two SpRs on overnight and an IMT3 level doctor. All the other Acute Medical duties are therefore 1 in 20 so our SpRs spend a much greater proportion of their time in their chosen specialty.
The post-holder will work across all aspects of the service but will mainly be based on Creaton ward and OPD. There will be close supervision by the consultants and the key aim will be to develop a broad based knowledge in various aspects of Diabetes and Endocrinology as well as practical procedural skills.
