Job summary

As a Trust we are investing in the Estates Engineering infrastructure primarily on our mechanical & electrical engineering systems to provide the foundation for the Trust to achieve significant carbon reductions through the introduction of new renewable technologies.

The post holder will be employed to undertake wide and varied technical maintenance work which will be routine and varied in nature which will include reactive work and planned preventative maintenance.

To ensure the optimum level of performance, safety and availability of the Trust's Estate and associated infrastructure and building services.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will problem solve complex technical issues whilst undertaking breakdown repairs, planned maintenance and upgrade work and a diverse range of complex building services to a technical level within their core skill set.

Instruct other on the above features and other aspects of their work.

Perform a wide range of work to include other maintenance disciples.

Be available to work additional hours as required.

Provide out of hours call out cover on a rota basis and where necessary.

Provide cover when there are gaps in the on-call rota.

The postholder will use permit to works, risks assessments, orders, job documentation etc and complete them accurately and timely.

The postholder will take reasonable care for their acts or omissions and work in a safe manner at all times

Maintain emergency / contingency systems to support critical services and minimise disruption to the normal operation of the hospital during emergency situations.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Diagnose and repair faults on a wide range equipment, services and systems which are complex in nature.

Promote and develop a culture of responsiveness, ownership and customer care within the team which delivers a responsive breakdown and planned preventative maintenance service.

Maintain emergency / contingency systems to support critical services and minimise disruption to the normal operation of the hospital during emergency situations.

To test new or existing equipment and engineering systems to verify safety.

Instruct other on the above features and other aspects of their work.

Act as Authorised Person as necessary and maintain strict records of Engineering systems to meet operational and statutory requirements.

Organise materials requisitions and assist in purchasing where required.

Keep the customer and helpdesk appraised of work at all times, including feedback on progress and delays to works affecting the customer.

Investigate and promote new working practices within the team to provide more efficient and customer responsive service .

The postholder will be able to interrogate and utilise the information from the building management system, fire system and other engineering computer systems.

Manufacture, assemble, erect and install new work.

Comply with all current Health & Safety legislation and attend training as instructed.

Be available to work additional hours as required.

Provide out of hours call out cover on a rota basis and where necessary provide cover when there are gaps in the on-call rota.

Any additional duties as specified by Estates Maintenance Manager.
