This post is to join the FY2/CT1/CT2 tier on the General Surgery On Call Rota.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly-motivated individual to join the medical education team in our busy and well-established medical education, simulation and resuscitation center as a clinical teaching fellow. This post is aimed at doctors wishing to develop their skills and knowledge in the field of medical education. Every effort will be made to tailor the post to the candidate's clinical and career needs. In addition, you will receive funding towards a formal qualification in medical education and support for the development of a quality improvement education project.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will take part in the general surgical on call rota on a 1:12 basis. Apart from on call commitments; this post will be clinically supernumerary, with designated time for education. There will be opportunities for research projects in accordance with the candidate's wishes. In addition, if the candidate desires it, there will be opportunity for theatre, procedural and outpatient sessions in the candidate's preferred surgical subspecialty.
There are weekly general surgical departmental teaching sessions, and monthly Mortality and Morbidity meetings. These act as excellent opportunities for presentations, clinical notes review and are a good learning environment.
The post holder will work alongside the Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies, DME and DDME with all divisional medical educational programmes in line with Health Education England (HEE), General Medical Council (GMC), requirements to support the development of all medical student and junior doctors in training.
The appointee will be expected to live within a reasonable travelling distance of the Northampton General Hospital. Then post holder may take up a whole time, maximum part time or job share contract.
The clinical teaching fellow will be expected to develop skills in the delivery of education to medical students and junior doctors andbe involved in a range of teaching and learning opportunities and activities to take theory to practice.

- Provide tutorials and bedside teaching for students.
- Arrange additional educational activities which may vary according to the needs of the service. These may include for instance a revision course before finals.
- Be allocated a consultant to act as your tutor. They will appraise your progress and help guide your clinical development. You will be given time to attend modules leading towards a medical education qualification.
- Work on research and quality improvement projects of relevance to medical education. It is expected that this work should lead to presentations at appropriate professional meetings and publication in relevant journals.

Currently, we operate a 1 in 12 Full shift New Deal Compliant Rota covering general surgery, vascular surgery and urology.
Annual leave entitlement and study leave requests will be granted within the framework of the departments annual leave and study leave policies. Study leave is encouraged particularly in areas of interest to the post-holder.
