Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine (Trust Grade Registrar) +/- Special Interest
We all know that Emergency Medicine can be tough, we want to offer a job that invests time into developing you and your interests alongside our awesome speciality. Posts are also available without a special interest.
These fellowships are a minimum 80% clinical time on our Middle Grade rota and 20% non-clinical time to undertake project work (Some of the fellowships may be allocated a greater amount of non-clinical time). They are ideal as a 12 month post for an OOPE (but please check you are eligible for time out of your programme). They are also open to those who want a longer term appointment as well.
We have a number of special interests on offer, including Education, Quality Improvement, Wellbeing, Frailty/ Geriatric Emergency Medicine, or I.T. If there is an interest that we haven't mentioned please get in touch as we may be able to accommodate a bespoke position. We are also happy to discuss what each position might entail in advance of application via the details below.
Main duties of the job
Successful candidates will be expected to work in all areas of the department at the level of a Senior Decision Maker (ST4+) providing care to adults and children with Emergency presentations.. The post holder will also have to provide support to more junior colleagues. Candidates should review the personal specification closely to ensure they are suitable for this post.

Successful candidates will be allocated a supervising FRCEM Consultant with a relevant special interest to support their project and will be encouraged to submit project work for presentation regionally/ nationally.

- The Emergency Department was inspected in 2019 by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and was rated as "GOOD"
We are a very organized and professional department seeing upwards of 115,000 patients per year, of which approximately 25% are children. The Consultant team is made up of 11 FRCEM qualified Consultants and we all have specialist interests including Geriatric Emergency Medicine, Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine, Wilderness Medicine, Sports medicine, Acute medicine, Education, Emergency Ultrasound Practitioners, and Level 1 ultrasound trainers.

The ED has 24/7 middle grade clinical cover with two or more senior doctors present at all times.There is extended consultant cover from 08:00 23:00 weekdays, and flexibly 10:00-22:00Hrs weekends & bank holidays. Outside these hours, consultant cover is provided via an on-call system and consultants will attend the department if required.
Post holders in this grade will participate in the middle grade rota. Duties within the EmergencyDepartment will cover the whole range of clinical responsibility for adults and children with emergency problems from minor injuries to major trauma, and minor illnesses through to the critically unwell.
You will be expected to lead major cases in our resuscitation room. You will also be responsible for any patients you admit to our Emergency Observation (Short stay) Ward. We also run a weekday ED Review Clinic, your rota will include shifts covering this.
The post holder will be expected to prioritise and time-manage effectively according to the activity of the department. Out of hours, the post holder will be one of the senior doctors present in the department and will be expected to lead the shift, working with the nurse-incharge to ensure patient safety.
We would encourage the post holder to complete workplace based assessments to allow documentation of their own development an mapping of competencies achieved in line with RCEM curriculum.
Education is an important part of the role. The successful applicant will be expected to receive and deliver teaching. The post holder will receive consultant supervision and have a named consultant supervisor, and may be involved in supporting the training of other staff: medical; nursing; para-medical at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
