Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Specialty Doctor to our department at Northampton General Hospital. The successful applicant will join an existing team of 42 consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 5 Specialty Doctors and 37 junior doctors. Our department is fully committed to training and personal development, and actively participates in hospital activity with many of us in trust lead roles. The Associate Medical Director for Patient Safety, Chair of IT, and Chair of Medical Equipment Committee are anaesthetists. A number of us have major roles outside the trust: Four consultants are Royal College Examiners, one Irish Examiner, and one EDAIC examiner. Speciality doctors from the department are appraisers, on Local Negotiating committee and involved in training and manpower management. We are keen to support CESR pathway and our most recent appointment to consultant position was a SAS doctor from our department.
Main duties of the job
The job involves 7 day-time theatre sessions a week on an average. This direct clinical care activity adds up to 8.75 programmed activities (PAs). An additional 1.25 PAs per week is paid for supporting professional activity to allow for participation in teaching, training, CPD, audit, appraisal, clinical management and governance activities. In addition, the successful applicant will join a group of 8 consultants/SAS doctors on a weekend trauma rota. Accordingly this will attract appropriate PAs (currently 1.25) in the job plan.
About us
NGH is one of the largest employers in the area and all of our divisions are committed to doing things better, with more efficiency as we update, modernise, and advance. We have also entered into a Group Model with neighbouring Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Being a large DGH with a proud history, we are big enough to get interesting cases, but small enough to care, coach and develop. With over 200 consultants, a similar number of trainees and approximately 60medical undergraduates throughout the year, NGH provides comprehensive care and extensive training opportunities.
With this in mind, we have built a state of the art emergency assessment unit (Nye Bevan building) and are developing new ways of working to streamline in-patient care and optimize working with our partners.
NGH also has a large library, gym with swimming pool, and a brand new entrance with Marks and Spencer, Subway and Costa on site.
