Job summary
NHS Locum Consultant Breast Radiologist at Northampton General Hospital Trust is a post to meet the needs of an expanding breast service. The post is for up to 24 months with opportunity to apply for a substantive post.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the Breast Team to be part of our high quality screening service. The appointee will work alongside 3 Breast Specialists (1 Cross Sectional Consultant and 2 Breast Clinicians), a Consultant Radiographer and 3 Advanced Practitioners providing a full spectrum of breast intervention.
The appointee will also be part of a wider team of sixteen consultant radiologists who provide general radiological services across the Trust.
Candidates must hold the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists or an equivalent qualification and must either be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of possession of a CCT/CESR at the time of taking up the appointment.
An appropriate period of subspecialty breast training and experience with knowledge of basic interventional techniques is required, as is a proven track record in service development and audit.

Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be expected to work closely with the existing breast radiologists/clinicians as part of a multidisciplinary Breast Team.
- It is envisaged that the post holder will have at least 5 sessions for breast work. General radiology work and the job plan will be finalised in detail with the successful candidate to take into account the interests of the candidate and the needs of the department.
- The typical job plan will have 8.5 PAs of DCC time of which at least 5 will be Breast sessions. The core SPA allocation is 1.5PAs per week.,
- Job plan configuration would be agreed with the successful candidate in conjunction with the Clinical Director of Imaging.
- All consultants undergo yearly job planning review and appraisal.
- Time is available as part of SPA for audit, management, administration and teaching.

The Radiology Department is based on a single site at NGH and provides high quality imaging support for these services with state-of-the art equipment. We have had major investment in equipment recently and the department is being refurbished. We are also actively involved in teaching and training of Radiology registrars, Advanced Practitioners and medical students from the University of Leicester. We are looking at establishing senior trainee / fellowship posts as well.
The department provides a full imaging service as expected in a District General Hospital.
There are 3 multislice CT scanners on site - (one Philips Ingenuity Elite 128 slice and two Siemens Definition AS 128 slice); two 1.5 Tesla Philips MRI scanners (fixed site) and 7 day mobile MRI scanner provided by Alliance Medical; 5 plain film rooms; a DEXA scanner; 6 ultrasound rooms recently equipped with new GE Logiq E9 and Voluson E6 machines.
