Job summary
The post will ideally suit a forward-thinking individual with the desire to further a subspecialist interest the care of patients with oculoplastic, adnexal and lacrimal conditions with a view to developing the requisite clinical and surgical skills set. A desire to participate in research and clinical audit is essential. It is assumed that the candidate will already have broad-based ophthalmology training and this will be essential to managing general ophthalmic problems that arise or are already present in patients with oculoplastic problems. Cataract surgery will be provided to maintain phacoemulsifications skills, but a level of proficiency will be expected as this is primarily an oculoplastics firm
Main duties of the job
This is an established post to allow a suitable candidate to embark on a one year fixed term fellowship in oculoplastics, adnexal and lacrimal training under the direct supervision of Mr T F W McMullan and Miss D Rathore.
The successful candidate will be required to help with on-call provision, currently shared during the weekdays and weekends between the junior and middle grade doctors (1:8)
The employing Trust is Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. The post is covered by the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales), as amended from time to time.
The contract is for a fixed term of 12 months. The successful candidate will be expected to have at least three years of accredited basic general ophthalmic training to the level of OST 3 or equivalent and will be expected to have passed MRCOphth or equivalent.
About us
The successful candidate will also be required to reside within 10 miles of the Northampton General Hospital, to maintain his/her residence in contact with the public telephone service, unless specific approval for alternative arrangements are approved by the employing Trust.
