This job is now closed

Job summary

This is a new post for a consultant cardiologist with specialist interests in ACHD and coronary intervention. The successful applicant will join 11 other consultant cardiologists in this significant service expansion and will be expected to further develop cardiology services and specifically ACHD and interventional services in Northampton General Hospital, and collaborate in delivering a county cardiology service with Kettering General Hospital and with Primary care.

The successful applicant should have extensive general cardiology skills in order to participate in the general cardiology ward rota, which is a specialty cardiac take as cardiology is no longer part of the general medical take. This runs alongside the urgent care pathway which includes a new build of an Acute Medical Assessment unit in 2017. The PPCI on-call rota will be 1:10 at the KGH site, on-call for emergencies overnight from home (within 30 minutes). There is also a cardiology ward rota for Monday to Friday daytime cover at the NGH site.

The successful candidate should be trained and proficient in all areas of coronary intervention and must have significant additional subspecialty interest in ACHD (further experience and education to be arranged as required in post). Any other interests that would complement the current departmental requirements and skill sets will be actively encouraged and supported.

This JD is pending RCP approval.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will develop local ACHD at the NGH site further and perform coronary intervention/ partake in the on-call PPCI rota at the KGH site. The ACHD service is currently led by visiting Consultant Dr Liz Orchard, from Oxford. The post holder will be expected to work with Dr Orchard to improve and refine local delivery for ACHD patients. The appointed candidate will join the existing cardiologists in providing comprehensive care to patients requiring specialist input across both sites. The ethos of the team is to share the workload and there will be an opportunity for the successful candidate to pursue other areas of interest. He/she will lead ward rounds, out-patient clinics, coronary diagnostic and interventional sessions, participate in the general cardiology ward rota and participate in multi-disciplinary and mortality and morbidity meetings.
