Due to new investment into the Pharmacy Team at Northampton General Hospital and following successful internal promotions, we have a number of specialist pharmacist posts available and are holding a recruitment day to invite those who are interested in the following positions:

  • Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Diabetes
  • Specialist Clinical Pharmacist- Stroke/Elderly Medicine
  • Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Clinical Trials and Medicine
  • Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Surgery
  • Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Cancer Services/Medicines Advice Service
  • Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Medicines Advice Service/Clinical support

We will be holding a recruitment day for all the job roles together in late August/early September. Please rank the specialist posts in order of your preference in yourapplication

Main duties of the job

To work with the Pharmacy Clinical Team to provide a comprehensive Pharmacy Service to adult patients particularly within the speciality / clinical trials throughout the locality.

To be accountable, under the guidance of the Principal Pharmacist, Medicine for the medicines management service provided to patients, staff and the division of Medicine (and to the speciality as per the post successful in).

Additional responsibilities within clinical areas as specified below:

  • Providing a Clinical and Specialist Pharmacist role
  • Managing (planning, organising, monitoring, controlling, developing staff etc)
  • Service development
  • Other duties/functions
  • Provide effective input into the work of the Trust, to support the achievement of our vision and values.

All the posts have a strong clinical pharmacy aspect to their role giving you the opportunity to develop in your knowledge and skills. You will work on the wards and build relations with the multidisciplinary teams; there will be speciality teams you will work with too which may attendance on ward rounds. You will be able to demonstrate your clinical pharmacy skills of medicines optimisation, reducing errors and prescribing (if qualified) to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines for your patients.

If you are not a prescriber yet, this will be strongly encouraged and supported.

Essential

  • MPharm
  • Member of General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Achieved (or working towards) postgraduate clinical qualification (or equivalent knowledge/experience)
  • CPD portfolio

Desirable

  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Practice Certificate in Independent Prescribing
  • Member of UKCPA or other relevant specialist body

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Post-registration hospital clinical pharmacy experience including at least four of the following specialties:
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Skill mix issues/role of technicians in clinical services
  • Awareness of interface issues
  • Teaching, supervising and training staff
  • Undertaken service improvement / quality improvement projects or audits
  • NHS arrangements, eg CCGs, NICE, CQC, Clinical Governance

Desirable

  • Staff supervision
  • Experience of prescribing within a speciality
  • Experience of working with the speciliality requested
  • Recruitment process
