Job summary

Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KGH) are looking to recruit a highly motivated, flexible and enthusiastic Medical Device Technician to join our technical team providing operational maintenance services to a large acute hospital and associated properties.

You will be a keen and enthusiastic team member with a recognised electronics or electrician experience and qualifications providing maintenance and repair of devices within a complex medical environment.

You will work as the Medical Device Technician and report to the Medical Devices Supervisor.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

We are looking for someone who can maintain electronic/electrical medical equipment in a workshop environment and off-site with the ability to travel to the KGH satellite properties.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will assist the Medical Devices Manager, Medical Engineering Supervisor and other Medical Engineers in:

Carry out repair and testing of medical devices as direct by the MDM.

Be responsible for the operational safety of all equipment maintained by the departments.

Record the arrival of any equipment, risk-assess and initiate or update service records.

Operate a planned safety testing/planned maintenance scheme

Participate in the operation of a continuing total care system

Participate in the Trust quality improvement and clinical governance schemes

Ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures

Take a pro-active role in issues involving Health & Safety and Risk Management.

Record in a suitable manner any actions carried out upon any equipment tested or maintained by the department.

Assist in maintaining adequate stores and materials to ensure minimum downtime.

Assist in maintaining adequate records for equipment and updating departmental records.

Completion of a work related project assigned by the MDM

Carries out the Pre-Delivery assessment of equipment to ensure compliance with appropriate legislation.

Carry out individual specialist duties as agreed with the MDM and detailed below:

o Liaise with clinical staff at all levels and liaise with manufacturers and suppliers

o Liaise with staff, managers and suppliers to organise equipment trials and loans

o Carry out commissioning of new equipment and notify the MDM and medical Devices Training Co-ordinator of training requirements.

o Support others technicians and staff I the maintenance and use of designated equipment specialities as directed by the MDM

Provide technical advice and resources to support the activities of the Medical Equipment Library.

  • Ability to work with fine tools to tight tolerances
  • Ability to work with complex micro electronic circuitry
  • Ability to read wiring and circuit diagrams
