Job summary

To deliver an exceptional and innovative Knowledge & Library Service to staff, learners, and partner organisations as a member of the Knowledge & Library Service team. The library supports all trust staff and learners to deliver patient-centred, evidence-based care in a timely and efficient manner and supports research in the trust and the continual professional development of trust staff through a range of library services.

Main duties of the job

Ensure that all electronic library resources such as databases, journals, e-books, point of care tools and other online resources are easily accessible to staff and students, delivering training, liaising with providers, troubleshooting any issues, evaluating resources, and providing statistical reports. To be the Athens administrator for the trust, managing user accounts and enabling access to our subscribed resources.

Managing, designing, and maintaining the library website and intranet pages to facilitate access to library resources and services and designing library promotional materials.

Conduct literature searches to support evidence-based practice, producing current awareness updates.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Take the lead in the development and utilisation of electronic resources in the Knowledge & Library Service.

  • Manage the link resolver software to ensure seamless access to the librarys online resources. Provide training, liaise with suppliers, troubleshoot technical issues, and take a proactive approach to exploring and using the latest technology to improve access to the electronic resources and the library service. To make changes to practices and procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness, implementing service changes as new technologies become available.

  • To be the Athens administrator for the organisation: manage user accounts, resolving any access and technical issues, and liaising with suppliers to enable Athens access to library resources.

  • To be responsible for maintaining and updating the library website and library pages on the intranet.

  • Manage the library management system (koha) in collaboration with the consortium LMS lead. Troubleshoot technical issues, write SQL reports to gather data to inform service developments. Have knowledge of relevant legislation and information governance issues to ensure that the system is compliant. Implement changes to practices and procedures in the library as the system develops and new features become available.

  • Answer a wide range of library and other enquiries from a diverse range of people, both internal and external to the organisation. Have an in-depth knowledge of specialist library resources and services to assist library users.

  • Have knowledge of specialised databases and other resources to assist the Clinical Librarian by undertaking literature and evidence searches on behalf of trust staff to support patient care and evidence-based decision making. Undertake evidence searches to support the production of evidence-based patient information in the trust. Analyse the search results and use their judgment and knowledge to decide on the key findings that will support evidence-based decisions. Ensure searches are completed in a timely manner and accurate records kept.

  • To use their knowledge of the digital landscape to support the digital transformation agenda and digital upskilling in the trust. Work with a range of stakeholders and teams, including the digital champions, digital leads, and L&D Team.

  • Actively contributing to the support and development of Learning Management Systems to improve the learning experience for staff and students.

  • In conjunction with the Clinical Librarian, produce and deliver a range of courses to promote use of Knowledge & Library Service resources through a variety of means such as e-learning, virtual classroom, bitesize learning etc. Support staff using the library to complete Statutory & Mandatory e-learning.

  • Communicate with library colleagues locally, regionally and nationally to share knowledge & expertise and widen access to resources and training.

  • Produce specialist current awareness bulletins of the latest research to support both clinical and non-clinical practice. Use their knowledge of the different databases to conduct effective literature searches, and to decide on the relevant articles to include.

  • Create KnowledgeShare current awareness alerts for library members.

  • To contribute to local and national evaluations of the effectiveness and impact of library & knowledge services. This includes collecting quantitative and qualitative feedback, including responsibility for running the annual library survey, case studies, evidence of impact, statistical data etc and keeping up-to-date spreadsheets to support service developments and compiling statistical reports from the data. To use this evidence to help inform decision making.

  • To support the KLS manager to prepare the KLS strategy and action plan and to support with the Quality Improvement Outcomes Framework submission.

  • Keep up to date with KLS and digital technology developments both locally, regionally, and nationally including CILIP, NHSE and government policies & strategies.

  • Horizon scan for new approaches, technologies, and opportunities to support the education innovation agenda working collaboratively with the wider L&D Innovation team to share knowledge and ideas and drive service improvements.
