Job summary

Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KGH) is seeking an exceptional candidate to lead our clinical team to the medicine division. We are a small acute Trust in Northamptonshire offering clinical balance in medicine, surgery, women's & children's, cancer and diversity with the ability to form solid working relationships with colleagues across the organisation.

It is an exciting time to join this innovative department as we develop our service to medicine. You will act as a role model and provide a key leadership role in ensuring the professional development needs to the pharmacy staff working in this service are met. You will work closely with other clinical leads in the pharmacy and with divisional senior medical, nursing and management staff.

The Pharmacy Medicine division team, made up of specialist pharmacists supported by a general pharmacist rotation, works collectively to improve medicines management for the patients using our service.

You will be a member of our strong Pharmacy leadership team contributing to the clinical and operational management and strategic direction of the department.

As a small acute Trust, your contributions are valued by the senior clinical and management team in the hospital. KGH offers leadership development and quality improvement training to its leaders. This empowers our leaders to drive quality improvement in their area which you will be a part of.

The Department

We employ around 100 people in a friendly and supportive team. The department is arranged into a variety of interdependent groups working closely together.

Our clinical teams of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support staff work daily at ward level supporting the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering high quality and safe medicines use.

The successful applicant will lead and develop the specialist clinical pharmacy service to the medicine division. They will provide expert pharmaceutical advice to the multidisciplinary team as well as the developing and delivering the strategic vision for the medicine division clinical pharmacy service.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Work collaboratively with Chief Pharmacist, Deputy Chief Pharmacist, the Surgery and Womens & Childrens clinical leadsand Lead Medicines Management Technician to deliver a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service.

Take an active role in the pharmacy leadership and development group to steer the direction of the pharmacy service whilst contributing to its vision and strategic priorities.

Work closely with senior divisional staff the Chief of Division, Divisional Director, Head of Nursing, Clinical Directors, Consultants and others to provide expert medicines management advice and support.

Develop and maintain policies, guidelines and procedures for the service that are evidence-based and comply with legal and current guidance thus providing tools to maintain optimum clinical use and the safe and secure handling of medicines

Manage the collection of data to respond to pharmacy/medicine Key Performance Indicators relating to clinical performance, quality and safety and write regular reports as part of a program of audit/service evaluation.

You must be enthusiastic and committed to team working with excellent communication skills combined with extensive clinical or leadership experience.
