Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our dynamic and progressive surgical team. The post is a fixed-term full-time locum post for a Consultant in Upper Gastro-Intestinal Surgery to join an existing part time Consultant UGI Surgeon and our team of General Surgeons with interests in Colorectal, Endocrine and Day Case surgery.
The appointee will have had comprehensive training in Upper GI surgery including diagnosis and management including Upper Gastro-Intestinal cancer, surgery for GORD and biliary disease. It would be desirable if the appointee was fully trained in ERCP, however not essential.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will work in collaboration with the existing part time Consultant UGI Surgeon to provide a comprehensive Upper GI service to North Northamptonshire and surrounding areas, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of upper GI disease.
This post is for Benign Upper GI surgical services. Supporting OG and HPB diagnostics, surgical treatment of GORD, achalasia, gallstone disease (including management of CBD stone disease).
Endoscopy services are mostly provided by the Gastroenterology team in a dedicated unit. ERCP services are provided by the existing UGI surgeon and a Gastroenterologist but it is envisaged that this post will participate in the service.
The post holder will be required to play a full part in meeting agreed waiting list targets, including, where necessary, treating patients from other consultants' waiting lists (Pooled lists).
The appointees will be expected to take part in the general surgical emergency rota (currently 1:8).
The appointees will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence, have a continuing responsibility for the patients in their care and for the proper function of the Department. Participation in Clinical research will be expected and encouraged.
