Job summary
This post replaces the current trainee who had successfully completed the training period in department of Neurology in Kettering. You will be joining a team of four consultants. This is an ideal post for someone who is looking to gain more experience in Neurology working with the consultants and learning new skills.
Post holder is expected to undertake supervised Neurology out- patient clinics and one Electromyography EMG clinic (training will be provided). The registrar will support the consultants with in-patient referrals and attend to procedures such as Lumbar punctures and IV infusions on weekly basis. Registrar is expected to attend and present at weekly neuro-imaging(CT-angios & MRI) MDT.
There is a possibility of attending specialist clinics such as epilepsy, Multiple sclerosis, Botulinum Toxin injection clinic and nerve conduction studies clinics in Kettering and attending the regional center weekly for learning from highly specialized clinics in Epilepsy surgery, peripheral nerve disorders, neuro-immunology, muscle disorders, Neuro-vascular clinics, EEG reporting as per interest.
Arrangements could also be made for the appointee to attend an alternative hospital for further training if they have special interest areas in neurology.
Research and publications are encouraged and supported.
Main duties of the job
To provide care and management to all patients under the care of Neurology alongside consultants
- To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care
- To participate in undergraduate teaching and training as required
- Audit and research as required
- Weekly Academic session at regional Neurology centre (Coventry university Hospital or Oxford)

Excellent experience and teaching in all areas of the management of acute and chronic neurological conditions will be provided.
In addition to this there is an active teaching program at the regional centre to introduce and explore topics specific to neurology. There will also be the opportunity to attend the weekly clinical meeting at the regional centre.
Additional experience forms a central training component of these posts and will be appropriately supported.
