Job summary
The Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Department of Medicine for Older People is looking to positively influence elderly care both across the Trust and into the community, working with both internal and external partners to model responsive, holistic & patient centered services. The successful candidate(s) will be instrumental in driving forward this change and being part of this new exciting development.
The Department of Medicine for Older People provides an integrated holistic healthcare service for older patients with complex multiple co-morbidities. Current inpatient bed strength for the department has just been expanded from 40 to 50 with the creation of a new medical ward. The current services offered include movement disorders, falls services, and orthogeriatric.
The existing team have developed pioneering new services, which have gained attention locally and nationally including the frail elderly in-reach model, which has improved care outcomes for patients and reduced the average length of stay for the patients within their care. KGH was one of the first 10 hospitals in the country to join the Acute Frailty Network and are working with them to develop the Acute Frailty Service to improve and extend the early comprehensive geriatric assessment of elderly patients in this hospital.JD & PS Pending Royal College Approval
Main duties of the job
This is a replacement post as a substantive appointment to join the existing 7.6WTE Consultants within the Department. There would an opportunity to lead services and flexibility in the choice(s) of subspecialty. We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking geriatrician who are willing to influence, and, work in partnership with the team, lead change within the department, to bring their passion and commitment for acute elderly care to the fore.
We are seeking candidates that can demonstrate innovative approaches to enhance existing services and potentially develop new services with a patient centred focus. We are also working with the community trusts to provide seamless care and opportunities for some community work in the future are likely.
Services include:
- Movement disorders Clinics
- Falls Clinic, syncope, tilt table testing.
- Stroke services: rapid access neurovascular clinics
- Orthogeriatric service
- Osteoporosis and Bone Health Clinic
- Acute Frailty In-reach Services in A & E/Admissions Wards
Applicants preferably have a CCT/CESR in Geriatrics and General Internal Medicine
