Job summary

A rare opportunity has arisen for a full time Waiting List Officer to join the Cardiac Centre scheduling team.

We are looking for a hardworking, self-motivated, enthusiastic team member to provide support in the scheduling of elective Cardiology patients.

This role will require excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. An understanding of Medway and NHS systems are important although not essential as training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

To coordinate and book the elective patients for diagnostic tests and procedures in the Cardiac Centre in accordance with the 18-week RTT pathway and Trust's Access Policy.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To liaise with staff of all disciplines in a professional manner and with an appropriate degree of urgency
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating all waiting list information on the Patient Administration System. To include adding patients to the waiting list and ensuring the correct RTT pathway is recorded. To maintain waiting list comments ensuring that consistent and accurate data is available for authorised users.
  • To book pre-assessment appointments for patients being added to a waiting list, including booking of interpreters as required.
  • To use the Patient Administration System regarding identification of patients and the use of B.I. reports to assist in the selection of patients from Patient Tracking Lists (PTL).
  • To deal with telephone enquiries, liaise with internal and external stakeholders to resolve any problems, queries or complaints, which may be from patients or relatives and may involve dealing with difficult situations.
  • To maintain the manual and computerised systems of patient records.
  • To ensure at all times that patient data is treated with confidentiality and filed accordingly. To be particularly sensitive to disclosure of patient information in any environment and to ensure that patients wishes are respected re; disclosure of information.
  • Ability to work as a team and support colleagues during times of absence.

  • Excellent keyboard skills and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office in particular Excel spreadsheets

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
