Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our dynamic and progressive team. The post is a replacement full-time post for a Consultant in Urology to undertake core urology but with an opportunity to develop a specialist interest.
The Urology Service is delivered by 5 Substantive Consultant Urologists and 3 Locum Consultant Urologists delivering elective and emergency care. There are 3 nurse 10 practitioners, a newly appointed ward practitioner and 6 specific Uro-Oncology nurses.
The department have access to a da Vinci XI Surgical Robot through the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group. The da Vinci XI Surgical Robot is installed at Northampton General Hospital as part of the long-term plan to increase robotic assisted surgery across wider range of specialties including Urology at both Northampton and Kettering hospitals.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to work within a multidisciplinary team to provide management of elective and emergency urological conditions including both benign and malignant conditions and to support the Urology emergency service.
The appointee will also be expected to actively partake in re-organising and re-shaping the department as it evolves in the new unit.
In addition to responsibilities for the provision of a comprehensive service for Urology, the appointee will take part in the emergency rota.

This appointment will help maintain the achievement of targets for outpatient and inpatient waiting times for routine and cancer work and to further enable us to comply with N-CEPOD recommendations for consultant-based emergency operating sessions during daytime hours.
The post holder will be required to play a full part in meeting agreed waiting list targets, including, where necessary, treating patients from other consultants' waiting lists.
The appointees will be expected to take part in the urology emergency rota. This is currently 1:7.
The appointee will be expected to take part in the administrative work relevant to their clinical commitment, and to contribute as appropriate to the work of the Directorate. The appointee will also be expected to take an active part in Audit and Clinical Governance.
The appointees will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence, have a continuing responsibility for the patients in their care and for the proper function of the Department. Participation in clinical research will be expected and encouraged.
The Trust support with requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
Participation in Trust mandatory training, job planning and annual appraisal is also a requirement. The Medical Director is the appointed Responsible Officer for revalidation purposes. There is a Trust-appointed revalidation lead in place to support doctors through the process.
