Job summary

Applications are invited to join Kettering General Hospital Foundation Trust as a full-time consultant radiologist in cross-sectional imaging/oncological imaging. Sub-speciality interest in gastrointestinal imaging, chest or Genito-urinary imaging is preferred. The post is created to achieve national cancer imaging targets.

Main duties of the job

This is a new post in the Imaging Department at Kettering General Hospital. The post holder will join an established cohesive team of radiologists supporting clinicians and delivering acute and elective imaging in both specialist areas and in general radiology. Sub-speciality interest will be entertained.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post has developed to complement the existing expertise within the department and to manage expanding demands for Imaging from Cancer Services. It will support cancer imaging reporting, attending multi-disciplinary team meetings and covering Ultrasound, CT and MR sessions in the working week. The appointees will be encouraged to perform basic interventional procedures, like biopsies and drainages .

The post holder will take part in reporting oncological imaging in preferred sub-speciality , attend MDTs, take part in acute CT/MR reporting, general ultrasound and sessions requiring authorisation /reviews of imaging and requests.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic Medical Qualification (MB ChB/MBBS or equivalent). FRCR or equivalent.
  • Certificate of Specialist Training in Radiology (or be within 6 months of its award at time of Advisory Appointment Committee).

Desirable

  • Additional undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in radiology
  • Experience in radiology equivalent to UK training
  • Research leading to presentations and/or publications.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Extensive experience in general radiology including plain film interpretation, ultrasound, CT, fluoroscopy and MRI in NHS
  • Competency in oncological MDT meetings
  • Competency in subspecialty reporting and intervention

Desirable

  • Experience of working within the preferred sub-specialty interest
  • Interest in teaching medical undergraduates, radiology and nonradiology junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals
  • Experience of teaching.

Skills

  • Ability to work within the relevant clinical and managerial structure, contributing to the continued development of the radiology service.
  • Ability to be a leader. Able to manage and motivate staff. Ability to be an effective member of a team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with and relate to all other health care staff.

  • Awareness of service development, governance and health improvement plans. Ability to manage change and to stimulate development. Keen and motivated to both learn and teach.
