Job summary

This is an exciting time to join us at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking to recruit a Band 8a pharmacist with an interest in medication safety to take on the role of Medicines Safety and Assurance Lead. We are currently restructuring our Medicines Safety team, so this is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to develop their leadership and strategic skills as the role will involve the development, implementation and maintenance of strategies to improve medicines safety within the Trust.

This role will also allow the right candidate to develop their confidence and ability to successfully network with various stakeholders to co-ordinate medicine safety initiatives within the Trust through working closely with the Governance Managers, Ward managers and the Trust Risk Manager. You will also be actively encouraged to attend and engage in both regional and national Medicine Safety Officer meetings.

You will work with the Chief Pharmacist and be provided with substantial support from our existing Trust Medicine Safety Officer (MSO) and a rotational band 7 medication safety pharmacist with a view to emerging as an expert in medicines safety and progressing towards taking on the role as Medicines Safety Officer for the Trust.

Finally, there is scope for any candidates that would like to keep some dedicated time providing a regular clinical commitment within a specific clinical area of interest to preserve their ward clinical knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job

To work closely with the Trust Medication Safety Officer (MSO) and work with the Divisional Lead Pharmacists, Patient Safety Leads and Medication Safety Group (MSG) to ensure the implementation of changes in medical and nursing practice in order to reduce medicines related risks.

To represent the pharmacy department externally in appropriate forums.

To co-ordinate medicines delivery and development of initiatives, improve medicines safety and assurance activity across the Trust.

To support and implement recommendations made by the Pharmacy Leadership and Delivery Group at Governance meetings.

To co-ordinate the delivery and development of initiatives across the Trust.
