Main duties of the job

Our operational team are responsible for supplying thousands of medicines to our patients every day and are key to providing excellent care.

The successful postholder will:

  • have managerial and strategic leadership accountability for all operational aspects of the pharmacy service, delivering excellent patient care.
  • work closely with the Chief Pharmacist and Senior Pharmacy Leadership Team to drive improvements in the quality of pharmacy services, innovation, modernisation and high levels of stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Act as a leader and role model for Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants within the department

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the provision of operational management and leadership within the Pharmacy department and co-ordinate the provision of all technical services (excluding Aseptic Unit), ensuring high quality patient care in conjunction with Deputy Chief Pharmacist/Pharmacy Clinical Lead.
  • To provide professional leadership to Pharmacy technicians working within the Department.
  • Together with the Chief Pharmacist and other members of the Pharmacy Senior Management Team ensure that the annual business plans and service strategies for the department are developed, maintained, and implemented, including the annual pharmacy efficiency plan
  • To be responsible for the development and maintenance of all policies and standard operating procedures relating to the provision of Pharmacy Services and Pharmacy premises.
  • To be responsible for the Pharmacy Pay Budget.
  • To be an authorised signatory.

Essential

  • Btec in Pharmaceutical Science/NVQ 3
  • Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Management qualification or significant operational experience

Desirable

  • Member of APTUK

  • In depth experience of hospital Pharmacy operational management across a range of areas
  • Recent hospital experience
  • Experience of project and change management
  • Broad technical and pharmaceutical knowledge relating to promotion of high quality, effective and cost-effective use of medicines
  • Experience of performance management
  • Experience of team leadership
  • Experience of service planning
  • Understanding of NHS organisation and recent developments
