Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Anterior Segment and Eye Casualty
We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic colleague to join our Ophthalmologists at Kettering General Hospital part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire to have a special interest in Anterior Segment and Eye Casualty.
We pride ourselves in being a small, friendly department, with real drive to improve both patient care and the working environment for our staff. Our service is structured in such a way that you should expect to feel part of a strong team, supporting and being supported. Our department places equal importance on the team and the individual, whether self, colleague or patient.
It is expected the successful candidate will be an exceptional and highly motivated individual, working with a similar ethos. The post-holder will participate in the Ophthalmology on call rota at the Trust.
As a group, we feel that the very best colleagues have an understanding of the way a District General Hospital Ophthalmology service works and thrives, and why they would want to keep their general ophthalmology skills current, accepting of the benefits of being on-call all the while, supported by the whole team.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic full-time consultant ophthalmologist. The post is for general ophthalmologists with a sub-specialist interest in Anterior Segment including high volume Cataract surgery and Eye Casualty to complement the department based at Kettering. This is a replacement post and to add to our existing team of consultants.
About us
Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides acute and elective services to approximately 400,000 people. Since becoming a Foundation Trust in 2008, the hospital has embarked on a programme of progressive development and innovation.
Two initiatives for Ophthalmology include;
- The development and expansion of the old ENT out-patient area, creating two injection procedure rooms, clinic rooms and separate waiting room for patients.
- Source suitable accommodation, to modify an Ophthalmology out-patient unit which will offer better access to diagnostics, virtual and face to face facilities in the community.
The Eye Casualty, LA/GA daycase procedures and inpatient provision will remain onsite at Kettering General Hospital.
The majority of patients are now seen in subspecialty clinics wherever possible, however we recognise that there is an unmet need in workflows for patients in peripheral clinics and high volume services such as AMD, DRS and glaucoma. We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Consultant Ophthalmologist to complete a supportive team of specialists, who is interested in developing innovative ophthalmic practice; The Trust would equally welcome applications from existing and newly trained consultants.
