We have a vacancy for A&E Receptionist in our Accident and Emergency Department (ED)
We require a motivated individual to join the team providing comprehensive reception and administration services to the A&E Department
Not only is the efficient running of the reception and the clerical services integral to the patients' journey, it is often the patients and relatives first point of contact in the department.
If you have excellent communication and organisational skills, along with the ability to work on your own initiative and cope under pressure with the ability to organise workload are essential criteria for the post, then we look forward to hearing from you.
An administrative background is desirable and a basic knowledge of computer skills are necessary although full training on the Trust's Patient Administration System (PAS) will be given to the successful candidate.
The position will entail working a variety of shifts which will involve nights, early starts, evening and weekends, so a reliable and flexible approach is required. Flexibility to work additional shifts as and when required would be advantageous.
Main duties of the job
1. To undertake reception duties for the department including accurately booking patients into the electronic system and responding to enquiries ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.2. Adhere to local policies and procedures.3. Communicate in the appropriate manner with members of the public and staff, taking into account any communication difficulties ie. hard of hearing, non-English speaking Nationals.
4. Answering telephone enquiries and transferring calls within department or other departments.5. Maintain the alphabetical filing system.6. Ensure all patient referrals are processed efficiently7. Deal tactfully, sensitively and with empathy with all patients and relatives attending the department.8. Work as part of a team within the Emergency Department.9. To attend training courses as required by the departmental manager.10. The postholder will be required to book transport home under the direction of the doctor or nurse in charge of the patient or by the nurse-in-charge. The postholder is required to keep the nurse-in-charge informed of all transport booking arrangements made.11. Use of computer systems where appropriate, including establishing a database, e-mail system,the Internet and intranet and other office systems.
