Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Studies Officer to join the CNTW Research Delivery team in the North Cumbria locality tosupport the development and delivery of existing NIHR Portfolio Studies in a wide range of clinical areasincluding schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, Parkinson's disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington'sdisease and Dementia.

In line with the CNTW strategy and the aims of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), we aim to establish a record of research excellence, developing a multi-disciplinary research team, operating across multiple organisations and encompassing a wide geographical region in the North East.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work under the direction of the Research Delivery Manager and Research Delivery Team Lead to develop strategies to implement the Clinical Research Network's portfolio of research studies.

The post holder will be a member of the Dendron and / or Mental Health Specialties team responsible for supporting research staff.

They will provide data management and research administrative support, as needed for all clinical trials and activities undertaken within Local Clinical Research Network: North East and North Cumbria (LCRN:NENC).

This work will involve collaboration with members of the National Health Service, the wider medical research community, the general public and other research networks

The ideal candidate should have experience in research. They should have the ability to organize and manage multiple interlinked components ofthe project and their work. They will need to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills and be able to conduct appointments and assessmentswith potentially vulnerable individuals. Most importantly, they will need to be enthusiastic about the research area and have a high level ofmotivation and commitment.

The post would be suitable for a psychology or health sciences graduate with post-graduate clinical research experience and ideally someexperience of independent execution of research work as well as an interest in further developing their research and academic skills.

The post holder should have a general understanding of the often-complex mental health symptomatology and needs of the service users and carers the service comes into contact with. The post holder should also have knowledge of CBT, the principles of confidentiality and riskassessment in a mental health context.

  • RMN / RGN or equivalent qualification in health an Allied Health Profession, social care or excellent degree in Psychology (including BPS registration, or eligibility to apply if required).
  • Significant experience in clinical mental health / neurodegeneration / social care / psychology practice

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, research about mental health and illness and interventions to promote mental health
  • An understanding of the needs of service users who may wish to be involved in research

Desirable

  • Experience as a practitioner or as a service user in mental health and / neurodegeneration or social care services.
