Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a part-time (11.25 hours per week) band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work into the Northern Regional Gender Dysphoria Service (NRGDS).
The Northern Region Gender Dysphoria Service (NRGDS) is a national service offering assessment and treatment for people with gender dysphoria, hosted by Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW). The service offers psychologically informed medical care, voice and communication therapy and psychological therapy as well as onward referral for gender affirming surgeries and hair reduction.
We are seeking applications from registered Speech and Language Therapists with experience and skills in delivering voice interventions. The role is part of our multi-disciplinary team and is for someone who are caring, compassionate, highly motivated to join our Specialist Gender Dysphoria Clinic.
Main duties of the job
You will have a particular interest and enthusiasm to work in this area. You will need to demonstrate your ability to engage and work collaboratively with others and be confident in providing high quality, evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy assessments and interventions.
You will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. You should have qualifications and experience relevant in this clinical field and work well as part of a close team whilst also be able to work independently. You will liaise closely with fellow professionals as part of a holistic, service user centred service. You will contribute to, write and review care plans and provide high quality service user centred care.

Education and Qualification
Essential
- Recognised SALT degree qualification and registration with HCPC
- Evidence of completion of a short course relevant to the area of specialism
Desirable
- Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- A dysphagia qualification or commitment to attain this qualification and practice in this clinical area
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Experience of delivering appropriate specialist assessments and evidence based interventions to service users
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical voice treatment approaches
- Knowledge of and experience in using psychological/counselling approaches in therapy e.g. Solution focused brief therapy, mindfulness, Narrative therapy
- Knowledge of good practice guidelines for working with trans and gender diverse patients with gender dysphoria, e.g. World Professional Association of Transgender Health Standards of Care, the NHS England National Service Specification
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary environment
- Working knowledge of statutory issues which impact on service users eg safeguarding, MHA, MCA
- Experience of contributing to audit and/or service evaluation

- Previous experience in working within a Gender Dysphoria Service
- Previous experience of working with neurodiverse service user groups
- Experience in MDT working and complex case management with a gender diverse caseload
