Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Specialist Nurse (Band 7) with Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) qualification to join our Gateshead West Community Treatment Team.
This is an exciting opportunity to take on a senior clinical role within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team providing high-quality, recovery-focused care for adults with complex and enduring mental health needs in the community.
As a key member of the leadership team, you will:
- Undertake advanced clinical assessments, formulate care plans, and provide specialist interventions.
- Use your prescribing qualification to support safe, evidence-based pharmacological management in partnership with service users and carers.
- Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and mentorship to colleagues, supporting the development of skills and standards across the team.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and collaborative working with partner agencies.
The successful candidate will be an NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse with substantial post-registration experience, including in community mental health settings. You will demonstrate advanced clinical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to lead in a challenging but rewarding environment.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will
- Act as a senior clinical practitioner within the Gateshead West Community Treatment Team, providing advanced assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions for service users with complex mental health needs.
- Use the Independent/Supplementary Prescriber (V300) qualification to assess, prescribe, monitor, and review medication in line with best practice and Trust policy.
- Work autonomously, managing a defined caseload while contributing to team triage, duty systems, and urgent response.
- Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and mentorship to nurses, support workers, students, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Undertake and contribute to risk assessments and risk management plans, ensuring service user safety and positive risk-taking where appropriate.
- Lead and participate in clinical audits, service evaluations, and quality improvement projects.
- Collaborate effectively with other health and social care professionals, voluntary agencies, and carers to promote recovery and social inclusion.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional records using the Trust's electronic patient record systems.
- Actively participate in service development, pathway refinement, and implementation of national/local mental health policy.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional development through supervision, appraisal, and ongoing learning.

- Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in evidence based psychological therapies relevant to Pathway.
- Student Nurse Assessor

- Postgraduate qualification in leadership or management.
