This is an exciting opportunity to join Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Forensic Community Team, based at St Nicholas Hospital in Newcastle. You will be part of a dynamic, supportive and highly skilled multidisciplinary service that plays a vital role at the interface of secure inpatient services and community care. The team is committed to recovery-focused, evidence-based practice and works closely with patients, carers and partner agencies to support safe reintegration into the community while reducing risks to others. Main duties of the job
As Consultant Psychiatrist you will provide clinical leadership within the Forensic Community Team, working with adults who have severe mental illness and complex forensic needs. You will undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessments, support recovery planning, and contribute to structured risk assessments that inform safe and effective care. Acting as Responsible Clinician, you will manage patients on conditional discharges and Community Treatment Orders, preparing reports for Mental Health Tribunals and the Ministry of Justice. The role involves close collaboration with colleagues across the Trust, as well as with MAPPA, probation and local community services, to ensure continuity of care and robust risk management. You will supervise and support medical trainees, contribute to audit, teaching and governance, and will be encouraged to develop special interests aligned to service priorities. The post offers 2.5 SPAs for professional development and strong peer support through an active consultant group.
