An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced Clinical Psychologist or Psychological Therapist to join our dynamic Learning Disability Community Treatment Team.
In this rewarding role, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering high-quality psychological assessments and interventions for adults with Learning Disabilities who may also present with complex needs.
We are seeking a practitioner who brings strong clinical skills and a compassionate, person-centred approach. In addition to direct clinical work, you will also contribute to:
- Clinical supervision of junior staff and trainees
- Consultation to the wider team and external agencies
- Research, audit, and service development initiatives

The post holder will ideally be an experienced Clinical Psychologist/Psychological Therapist with appropriate professional registration. There is also potential for this post to be offered as a developmental 7-8a progression, subject to the successful candidate achieving the required competencies.
Main duties of the job
- Specialist knowledge skills and experience of assessment, formulation, and interventions for psychological services in the learning disability pathway.
Highly developed knowledge of applying specialist psychological models with adults with complex mental health, behavioural and complex physical health needs for assessment, formulation, and intervention.
Specialist mental health and psychological knowledge and skills in relation to presentations in the learning disability pathway including.
Highly developed skills and competencies in using Positive Behaviour Support and adapted integrative clinical approaches to address the psychological difficulties associated with learning disabilities and cognitive assessments, and drawing on multimodal approaches to assessment, formulation and interventions in order to deliver evidence based psychological interventions.
The knowledge and ability to work at a systemic level in order to understand and address the needs of the individual and the wider system
The ability to contribute to service planning and development in the learning disability pathway and across the other pathways.
Demonstrated ability and highly developed specialist supervisory, consultancy, teaching, training, and leadership skills.
It is acknowledged that there may be specific skills required in some functions of the pathway that may be in addition to those listed above

Essential
- An Honours Degree in Psychology recognised for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society, or RMN, or equivalent degree level qualification in mental health And Post-graduate qualifications in psychological assessment and psychological therapy (e.g. Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, Post-graduate diploma in CBT, IAPT High Intensity CBT diploma). HCPC registered practitioner psychologist or equivalent e.g. BABCP registered CBT practitioner. Or Member of an appropriate professional body
- Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and British Psychological Society. - Knowledge of the theory and practice of one or more specialist psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups relevant to the community pathway, e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities. Substantial post qualification experience of specialist model specific psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across a wide range of care settings. Demonstrate further specialist training and experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a psychological therapist over a minimum of 18 months or an alternative agreed by the Psychological Services Professional Lead. Experience of providing clinical supervision.
