A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full time, Advanced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Neurological and Specialist Services based at Walkergate Park.

Walkergate Park is a Level 1 neurorehabilitation centre and one of the most advanced centres of its kind in Europe. The team has extensive experience and expertise in managing physical disabilities, neuro-behavioural, neuro-psychological, and neuro-psychiatric problems. This fully comprehensive service is delivered from state-of-the-art premises in the North East of England, purpose designed for modern rehabilitation practice. The centre provides high quality rehabilitation services on an inpatient, outpatient, day patient or community basis.

Neurological Services encompass 4 dedicated inpatient wards (neuro-rehabilitation, neuro-behavioural and neuro-psychiatry) and outpatient and community services.

We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic individual, with specialist clinical experience in rehabilitation. You will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and have the skills and knowledge to develop the delivery of Speech and Language Therapy within these services, whilst providing excellent, high-quality input.

This is a 3-year fixed term post.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be confident in providing high quality, evidence-based assessments and interventions and have an understanding and experience of working with people with a range of complex issues from a variety of settings and environments. Liaison with community teams, other organisations, families and carers will be a significant part of this role.

You will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work independently. There will be a requirement to share knowledge and skills specific to speech and language therapy with other members of the team including stakeholders.

Regular support and supervision will be available and professional supervision will be provided by a Speech and Language Therapist. You will be expected to actively engage in the supervision and the continuing professional development process.

Essential

  • Recognised SALT degree or equivalent and registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses to Masters level equivalence
  • Post graduate level qualification relevant to area of specialism

Desirable

  • Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Attendance at a leadership course

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict management
  • Evidence of effective organisational skills
