Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and wear (CNTW) NHS Foundation Trust

Senior Clinical Psychlogist/Psychological Therapist

The closing date is 17 August 2025

Job summary

This is an opportunity for a CAT Practitioner to join our specialist Cognitive Analytic Therapy service in Newcastle, for a part time (0.5 WTE) role.

The CNTW CAT Service is one of the very few services in the UK focused entirely on Cognitive Analytic Therapy. Our service is based in the Trust's Centre for Specialist Psychological Therapies, alongside services for EMDR, Psychotherapy, CBT and Family Therapy.

Our service:

  • provides CAT therapy to people with complex psychological needs
  • hosts the Newcastle CAT Practitioner, Introductory and Supervisor Trainings, and is one of four providers across England commissioned to deliver NHS England funded CAT Practitioner Training
  • provides CAT supervision to practitioner trainees, practitioners and others
  • provides CAT scaffolding services (e.g. 5 sessions CAT and other forms of CAT consultation)
  • undertakes service evaluation and research.

Main duties of the job

With the provision of NHS England funded CAT training we have steadily grown and are now a team of six. The balance of duties will depend upon the skills and experience of the postholder.

The key potential elements will be:

  • providing specialist CAT clinical interventions with adult service users with complex mental health needs
  • delivery of CAT supervision, training and consultation
  • contributing to service evaluation and development

The post holder will be a suitably qualified Psychologist or Psychologist Therapist with Practitioner training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy, ideally with some experience of delivering CAT training. The post holder will have appropriate profession and ACAT registration as a CAT Practitioner.

The post is open to accredited CAT supervisors, but we can also accept applications from practitioners who are currently undertaking or ready to undertake their CAT supervisor training. Other details are available in the Job Description and Person Specification.

About us

We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.
